Nokia 6230 Water Damged HELP !!!

Bought the daughter a Nokia 6230 at christmas on a 12 month contract with T-Mobile, a fortnight ago she was complaining that one of the keypad keys had stopped working.
So took it back to the T-Mobile shop and they sent it off for inspection, with the result coming back that the phone was water damaged.
She insists that its not been dropped in any water and there is no sign of any water damage visually ( on the screen, etc).
Unfortunatly I did not take out any insurance for the phone (bad mistake) now they advice me to take another contract out or purchase a new one which would cost even more. Can someone advice what I can do next as I can not accept that the fault is through water damage.

Always leave a foot print where ever you go.

My OH had an ericson phone from tmobile on contract which kept discharging too quickly. They kept fobbing him off with excuses ...e.g
it charges better the longer you have it.
you have to let it fully discharge each time
etc
eventually after he had tried all their suggestions he got VERY fed up and went into the shop and had an arguement with the sales person who had to ring her head office to decide how to deal with it.
They swapped it for a nokia WHILE they were getting it looked at and finally decided it was faulty so sent him another of the same model. He of course returned the nokia.
About a month later,he received the old one back aswell (no communication within that company!) so had his old broken phone and its battery .
I woud go back to the shop and kick up a fuss as sometimes the morons who work in these places are making the rules up as they go along. How do you know the shop didnt damage it before you got it?
They have a contract with you to provide a phone and service for a year, so the phone not working surely breaks the contract,I would say that I wasnt paying the other nine months worth as they had broken the contract as she cant use the phone but will carry on paying if given a replacement phone.0 -
This seems to be a bit of a kop out for mobile phone companies??
I thought there was a sticker inside all phones that turned red if they were in contact with water? i'm sure i read this on this site?
I agree with the last post, kick up a stink, go in the shop and make a nuisense, cant spell, of yourself.
Just done the same thing with Comet and my 2nd faulty washing machine!!0 -

ive had phones in for repair myself and been told they havent been in water, but the damage can also be caused by being in a pocket in a damp coat, condensation etc. i had one that was liquid damaged at the bottom of pcb, but was assured it hadent been wet - later found they used to give it to toddler to keep him quiet and he had been sucking it !!!
the warrenty is with nokia and they wont honour it if the nominated repair center finds any evidence of liquid damage.
i can have a look for you myself if you have no joy. ill give you details if you pm me.
btw the longer you leave the damage inside without correct cleaning, the worse it will get later as the corrosion is still happening inside.0 -
I've read quite a few stories from people being told by a particular manufacturer that a fault was caused by water damage, yet the owners are adamant the phone has not come into contact with water. I am beginning to wonder is it a standard reply.0

Not quite on topic - but I've always found Nokia's to be good with water! My girlfriend once accidently put her Nokia 7210 (best phone at the time) thru a full wash-cycle... It was switched on too. The xpress-on cover came out smashed to bits - we put the phone on a radiator and the battery next to the window and the next day it was good as new (and clean!!). Still using that phone now.0

When I worked in mobile retails stores (for over 3 years) I must have sent over 1000 phones for repair. Around a 3rd would could back Beyond Economical Repair, or water damaged. Along with an xray photo (not sure if it actually was, but it shown a bright highlight wherever water had damaged) showing the water in the phone.
Lost count of the amount of people who swore blind their' phone had not been near water. From my end I took the phone in bubbled wrapped it boxed it and sent it, it is VERY unlikely the store has water damaged your phone!
The phone DOESNT have had to been dropped in a bath or toilet to get water damaged. Using a phone in the rain, leaving it in a damp coat overnight, putting it on the bathroom shelf while you have a shower.. It only takes a small fraction of water to get into the phone where it spreads.
Usually reception will start to suffer, the screen may play up, or certain keys on the keypad will stop working. Every case I seen it would gradually get worse and worse till the phone died completely
For the cost of repairing a water damaged phone its usually cheaper to get a new one.
Happy days as youve got no insurance, DONT take out another contract to get a new phone. Get a cheap PAYG and get it unlocked, or on the same network, or buy a simfree from ebay.
I insure my phone on household policy for about £20 a year for accidental damage, theft and loss. A lot cheaper than taking out high street insurance.
Hope this is of help?
