They aren't very large files are they?
I seem to recall there is a 512Mb limit
You can create them bigger than 512 but not open them again0 -

It was sent to me as an email attachment
The message I get is
Word experienced an error trying to open the file
Try these suggestions
*Check the file permisions for the document or drive
*Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space
*Open the file with the Text Recovery converter0 -
Have you tried saving it as another filename, and deleting the 'x' off the 'docx' and seeing if it will open then?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

When you get the email, save the document. Then click on the document and copy and paste a copy. Then click on 'rename file' and rename it something.doc. Then try opening it.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
