Why do I have to send letter to cancel my o2 contract?
Just phoned up and cancelled my contract with o2, as for the first time in 7 years they have failed to provide me with a decent renewal/upgrade. However they stated that I have to send my wish to cancel in writing and then they will only cancel the contract 30 days after they receive the letter. I'm sure all the phone companies do this but it stinks a bit I reckon. I mean everytime I have taken out a new contract over the last few years with them I have done this over the phone without signing anything......

Not sure how relevant this information is given your 30 day time frame, but it bears mentioning before you mail your letter:

Essentially, O2 intend to provide retention tariffs/promotions equivalent to those offered to new customers. Clearly, these still won't be as good as discount 500/750 tariffs but it all depends on your needs at contract renewal.0 -
I was with o2 online and they canceled and refunded with an email.0

I have a feeling that if you request a PAC code you are free to use it immediately. If you don't have a new contract yet buy a prepay sim (or get on of the dozens for free on the web) and port your o2 number to that new sim card.0

I didn't put anything in writing - just phoned up, requested the PAC code, transferred to Virgin - contract ended.
Other phone - phoned up Three, asked to cancel, they gave me a date - nothing in writing (though we will have to see if it goes through - just realised typing this that I have no proof they agreed to the cancellation if it all goes wrong!).

you can email them which is better than sending a letter for obvious reasons, read you t&c if you still have them for the email address to send to ..it is something like mycare@o2.co.uk ...or have a search for my previous posts I have answered this question a few times before0

Hi,
My O2 contract with CPW is ending on 5 Mar, if I phone them up and request a PAC code on 5 Feb, can I use the PAC number to port my number to a PAYG straight away without breaching my minimum 12 mth terms?
I am not too worry I wont be able to use my last month inclusive minute even though I pay for it. Just want to make sure the contract is definately ended before 5 Mar.
thanks.0 -
With CPW it's best to phone them up and send them a letter in writing. Use recorded delivery or fax if you sent them a letter as even some CPW employees advise this. I was surprised but I have 2 friends' who have had problems with CPW and they were told to do this with all letters they sent to them by the shop staff.
CPW have told some people who phone up that they have to write to them to get their PAC and other people who write they have to phone up. The reason is CPW will try and sell you something else. They are so desperate to hold on to customers they don't let people get their PAC.
CPW excuse is that if you ask for your PAC you are asking to end your contract. This is not strictly true as your PAC is only valid for 30 days and if you don't use it you are still connect to CPW, so you are still in a contract. It is against OFCOM's regulations to make it difficult for a customer to get a PAC however you may have to battle with CPW to obtain it. In my case this included informing them that you are now going to phone the regulator up after reading all the regulations and quoting the correct section to them.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
