Yes - it would be legal.

You'll have to tell us some more information about the circumstances for us to be able to advise.

Is the account overdrawn or in credit?

If overdrawn did you have an agreed overdraft?

When you say they closed it - did they send you a letter in advance or just stop you accessing with no prior warning? If you had a letter what did it state?

Probably. I can't see their expensive lawyers letting them do it if it weren't legal.

Are you sure you're telling us the whole story?

  • Yes it's the truth, I phoned in and ask what happened and they said we've closed your account. I asked why and they said they couldn't tell me. I went to the branch and still got no answers at all. no letter has been received either.

Do you have money in the account or are you overdrawn?

If there was money in the account have they repaid you?

You could try writing to ask the reason for the decision, but I doubt they will give you much information unless to say something like 'you haven't stuck to the terms of the account', or 'its a commercial decision we've made based on our regular review'.

Have you've been going overdrawn or not paying anything into the account? have you paid a large sum in and could they possibly be worried about money laundering (although usually in that case they freeze the account rather than close it).

  • Maybe better to ask in The Budgeting & Bank Accounts Board.

sounds like money laundering or fraud ,this would be the reason they cant tell you
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

As soon as you get the reply "We can't tell you", it would make me suspicous. I would withdraw cash from any other accounts I have before those accounts are closed or frozen for reasons they can't tell you about.
