Online/Instore Prices

Hi there - hoping someone can advise?

Our DD is a Peppa Pig addict and we've seen something we'd like to buy her for Christmas, which is around £27-£30 in most retailers, but Tesco Direct are advertising it at £19.97 but are out of stock.

However, my partner saw one in our local store yesterday, which was priced at £27.99. So, I'm wondering if we'd be able to go instore and ask if they'd honour the online price????

Any advice welcome!

separate entities, no the wouldn't - I guess the worst they could say is no if you have the guts to ask...

They're not obliged to, but you can certainly ask. Also, if it's out of stock but still allows you to place an order, try ordering it online for delivery to that particular store, then approaching the collection counter with your order receipt and the item in your hand. There's a good chance they'll then fulfill the online order with the one from the shelf, which they can then replace when they receive your actual order.

Unfortunately on the website, it just ays 'temporarily out of stock'..........

Of course you can! It's not illegal to negotiate the terms of a contract.

I believe there was a post on here a couple of weeks ago where a Tesco price match was refused with another Tesco store, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't match an online price.

the overheads come into this i think and that is why prices will differ... online less overheads than a store.

There may also be tax implications, depending on where Tesco Direct is based.

HMV online is based in Jersey, and is usually cheaper than the high street store.

That tax loophole will be closed next year, all products as far as I am aware have vat

At the moment it is only imports from the Channel Islands that will start incurring VAT from April next year.
Items valued at £15 or less from any other country will still be VAT exempt.

I wouldn't be surprised to find some large DVD/CD retailers start shipping from the Far East to save the 20% VAT.

no they wont.
i had a similar thing at asda, my keyboard went, so i say a one on asda.com for £10 reduced from £14.97, so went to my local store where they had at least 20 in stock but ay £14.97 i asked about the £10 online offer and was told go online order for £10 and have it delivered to store for free collection.

i did this and had to wait 8 days for them to deliver an item to store when the store have plenty of stock.

another time i ordered PJs online at £4 when the same ones instore were £8
