hi , my fryer is needing cleaned .
when i take the oil out to clean the fryer will it be ok to filter and reuse ?
or does it have to be thrown away?
with the cost of oil now i was just wondering if this is possible
thanks0 -
My mum always just filtered it through a pair of tights then put it back in the fryer. I have no idea how old the oil was, but it made the best chips in the world

Hi tattooed bum,
There's an earlier thread on reusing cooking oil that may help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

The problem is the degradation of the oil results is transfats and more!
Loads of info eg. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=reheating+oil+transfats&start=10&sa=N0 -
I don't really eat eggs, but my DH likes a good friend egg every now and again but I always put sunflower oil in the frying pan and then use and then throw away after. I have seen someone who actually decants it back into a bottle and I have left mine in the frying pan yesterday as there was no room left in the dishwasher and now DH wants fried egg again - would it be minging to re-use the oil from yesterday that has been sat in the frying pan since then????

Is it a non-stick pan you've got?
If so you only need about a teaspoon of oil, run it round with an oil brush or a little piece of kitchen towel.
Or you could do him a poached egg in the same pan instead

Proper fried eggs need basting in hot oil, none of that teaspoon of oil here:D I'd reuse it, it will be fine. YOu can keep it in the fridge if you're worried.0
