what would happen if we didn't pay our last month's rent and council tax

Sorry to keep pushing up my thread!
Your landlord and agency still have enough problems elsewhere though, so it doesn't matter that much if this one doesn't come to anything -
but what can i actually do?? I've given up trying to call them and have written them a letter asking for them to please let us know what information we need to provide them to get our deposits back and when we would get them back, i didn't say anything else in the letter....is there somewhere i can report the agency to?
Thanks!0 -

If you think the agency isn't behaving reputably, you can report them to ARLA - the Association of Residential Letting Agents - if they're a member. More info here: http://www.arla.co.uk/

would you believe that my flatmate had been trying to pay the rent by going with our cheques to their offices only to find them shut so she'd been hanging onto our cheques and i have now ripped up mine so i don't have to worry about claiming back my deposit - soooooo relieved!!!0

So have you paid your rent up to the last month, or have you had a rent-free year? It's very moneysaving, but I'd hate to be on the receiving end from your landlord when he realises you owe him rent!2015 comp wins - £370.25

While they owe rent to the landlord if they pay the rent through a third party, the third party will get in trouble for not collecting the money, rather than them for not paying.
Report the agency to local trading standards. http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/towerhamlets/
Just pay the council tax even if the others haven't paid you.
Some councils chase people with debt collection agencies then bailiffs rather than take them to court as they know they are more likely to get the money.
I came home one day to discovered a ex-housemate had the bailiffs round because she hadn't paid her council tax in one of her previous houses about 3 years previously. The landlord and myself where p***** off as at the time we would have had to prove that the stuff was ours by showing receipts .I'm not cynical I'm realistic

No we just haven't paid the last month's rent (our deposit covers it anyway) as it appeared impossible to even try to pay it!! We haven't had a rent free anything....as in an ideal world we would have received our deposits back....
Of course, we've paid the council tax...(well i did anyway)...0 -

No, your deposit covers things like damage to the property, unpaid utility bills etc NOT the last month's rent!Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
the point being we have not done any damage to the property nor are we planning on not paying any bills and the chances of us getting our deposits back were next to none through no fault of our own...
AND WE TRIED TO PAY THE LAST MONTH'S RENT EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T IN OUR BEST INTEREST AS WE WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN OUR DEPOSIT BACK...0
