Wow, that is a good price for that TV, especially if youre getting 2 pairs of glasses with it.0

Talking of meaningless waffle, I've seen a number of shops that have signs stating "Up to 20% sale!!!". But the goods are never priced at up to 20% of their original price as the signs imply - they're all 80% or more!
Obviously signs like that are "meaningless waffle" because (apart from being wrong and meaning "up to 20% off sale"), a discount of "up to 20%" means that they could give a 0% discount on every item and still be within the terms of the advertised offer.
It's like those stupid Tesco Mobile adverts - "Top up with £10 and we'll give you £30 credit." So what?! That statement contains absolutely no information at all! I could set up a network that credits your account with a billion pounds when you top up with a penny, but that's not very generous if I charge calls at a hundred billion pounds a minute. Then there are companies like BT who try to get you to sign up to their broadband by saying "Only £6/month for the first three months", as if you're going to be happy to send them blank cheques for the rest of the contract.
Argh! I could go on! But eventually you just learn to ignore such nonsensical marketing. There will always be small print, and "Price Match Guarantee" in big letters doesn't mean that the small print won't state that "Price matches will never be made to anyone, anywhere, ever. We just want to give you the impression that you're getting a bargain so you don't shop around."
My favourite nonsense sign was one I saw outside a Boot's Chemist near me. In big letters it said, "Eye tests available today!" and then underneath in small letters, "(subject to availability)". Really?!0 -
Welcome to advertisingSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
I wanted to buy a (long time ago) 32 inch wide screen TV.., Curry's had started offering their price match promise.., Comet didn't have the item in stock (and was at a much lower price). Curry's wouldn't honour the price promise because Comet didn't actually have it in stock. It was explained to me then that they offer the TV at this price and then only have one in stock, which obviously sells quickly. Comet and Curry's then make more money because people go in and pay more money for the next model up.
I have not bought from either Comet or Curry's since. I always buy large electrical goods online.., with cashback from a cashback site.., after searching extensively for the cheapest price on chosen model (also flexible with model if sale on another comparable one).
The same model of TV is on sale including delivery at BestBuy for £499 http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000156386/Panasonic-TX-P42ST30B-42-Full-HD-1080p-Plasma-3D-TV.aspx?ref=pricerunner&loc=Flat-PanelTVs&srccode=cii_18510613&cpncode=27-68784978-2 I could have it delivered for free on 18th if I ordered tonite according to their website. I believe there is a 5.05% cashback for home delivery orders from BestBuy through TopCashBack. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/best-buy/0 -
You must be new here. Having the temerity to suggest the sensible course of action ? How dare you.

A money saving suggestion perhaps, but advising someone to buy something from Comet isn't IMO a sensible course of action.
I think that they must have about the worst aftersales service of any of the large retailers in the UK.0 -
I have no issue buying from Comet, and best buy dont include 2 free pairs of glasses so thats a no go.
Its just because the nearest currys is 2 miles away and comet is 20, and i guess i am intrinsically lazy :-)0
