Currys price match? Baloney

Just being interested i sent them this mail, second post will be the reply
I was looking recently at the PANASONIC Viera TX-P42ST30B which is available from Curry's for £599 with 2 free pairs of glasses. However the exact same TV is on the Comet website, and available in store for £499, also with 2 pairs of free glasses, but they give a model number of P42ST31B
I have checked on the Panasonic website and there is physically no difference between these and in fact the only reference on the manufacturer's website is to the P42ST30B. The 31B is just Comets reference number for the exact same item
In this case will Curry's price match or will the small print of it not being the exact same model number, even though the manufacturer only has reference to the P42ST30B, be invoked?

And the response
With our price promise we will match retail stores that are located within a 30 mile radius of the PC World/Currys store, providing that the item is exactly the same model and in stock with both us and the competitive store. This excludes any online companies, as we only match against other stores.
Although the models are similar the fact that they differ in model numbers mean store would be unable to match on this occasion.
This bit in bold is tripe, the models are exactly the same Comet just have a different model number :-)

It's well known that some of the larger retailers arrange with the manufacturers to specific model numbers allocated for themselves so that they can advertise a price match but not have to risk ever honouring it on certain items. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0

It looks like the 30B is the 'proper' model number, and the Comet one is the special purchase one - you may find there are slight differences with the warranty, etc., but it is hardly Currys' fault if they are selling the 'proper' set which they would price match against anyone whilst (near bankrupt) Comet are selling a special purchase under a different model number0

That might be considered fair comment but for the fact that Curry's are known to perform exactly the same stunt. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
And what really annoys is if you go on the panny website the B is not recognised at all0

Buy the telly from Comet.0

I can only assume Currys give something on top of the price match, otherwise as stone7 says just buy it from Comet and get on with your life.0

I thought everyone knew those "price match guarantees" by overpriced retailers were pointless...? Online purchases and shops in cheaper parts of the country are (nearly?) always excluded so it's usually better to ignore such price promises and do something really illogical... like seek out the cheapest trustworthy supplier for the goods you want to buy.
As stone7 says, just buy the TV from Comet, and use Quidco to get a 2.5% (~£10) discount on the pre-VAT price.0 -
I was going to get it from Comet, but was just wondering if anyone every got a price match, or if it was just meaningless waffle issued to pretend0
