I can't see a cable through a wall causing this sort of problem. I'd contact the landlord and tell him the wall is damp, I certainly don't think the OP is to blame for this, maybe it happens every year.

Might also be worth looking outside to see if there is anything making the outside wall damp, blocked gutter, overflow or something like that.

Possibly a silly question, OP, but - if, as you infer, there is no visible problem externally (where the cable enters the wall) - is it possible that the installer has nicked a water-pipe in the internal wall?

If you had it installed when you moved in, how do you know the installation is the cause of the fault and that the house didnt have minor damp problems prior to you moving in and having the work done?

If the landlord finds out, he won't be impressed.

How would you like it if someone came and drilled a hole in a house you own?

    It's not uncommon.

We've had virgin installed which involved the same in every property we've been in, and every properly lived in has had 2 or 3 other installations is the same or different rooms.

Just walk past any house and you'll likely see the wire entry point.

As the OP says this started after the installation then this is most likely cause

this is a possibility but the landlord needs to be told in any case as it will be worse for the OP if they dont inform him

op also stated it was installed when they moved in. So the property may have had some issues before this that op has no way of knowing about.

but as the OP says this started after the install and around the wire then this would conclude that this is the problem

Nukumai idea of drilled through a water pipe is a possibility, but i still think the op should inform the landlord, i dont think and recourse could be made against the engineer after this long
  • I will inform the landlord, I was just pre empting that they may blame it on the installation and if so I wanted to know my rights prior to that. I have no way of knowing if the wall was damp before, it was newly decorated as I moved in, maybe because of a damp wall, I have no way of knowing, equally I guess I would have no way of proving it wasn't because of the cable. I'm just hoping it not going to cost me a lot of money. I can't see any external damage at all. Thank you for your replies everyone.
