Hi All - been lurking for the past few months & not posted. Zagubov just bought a new desktop PC 'cos old one went into 'Menopause Mode' & wouldn't play any more! I was originally looking at a laptop & then realised there's no way I'm going to lug it round with me so went for the type that has all the 'gubbins' built in to the back of the screen (it was cheaper too!) Just finished loading free software (OpenOffice for documents & Mozilla Thunderbird for emails (from Techie forum) so I'm very pleased that I didn't spend out on software too.
Just picked the last of the apples - DH will core & peel while I slice & blanch in the microwave. Hopefully there will be enough to last till next year. Veg patch has been a bit of a wash out this year (pun not intended) I've managed a few onions, some green beans & about 5 sweetcorn - raspberries are doing well though, still picking some very day. Very interested to see the comments on keeping veg in the fridge. Someone on here said about wrapping cucumbers in foil in the fridge - it really works, they stay lovely & crisp for ages
We have a robin in the garden & he's been singing away - really makes me feel that Autumn is here - wot happened to summer:(

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend
Well if an old computer keels over I suppose there's no real choice. I use macs cos they last years. I get them on ebay secondhand and use auctionsniper to stop getting into bidding wars.
My current one's 11 years old- I've had it for six years now but it does all I need.

If you do need to get branded software (not always necessary as openoffice is perfectly fine IMHO), try software4students ;I don't think I've seen anyone beat them on price (but you need to get someone who's in education (staff/pupil/student etc.) to do the buying.

As regards keeping veg in the fridge, my DW's family were greengrocers and would be horrified if I put melon or bananas in the fridge. :D

  • Oh Lola. Sorry to hear you're having to job search. I bet you had a dozen things on your mind the night you were locking up.
Hope you find something really soon.

    Hi all :)

I joined this challenge at the beginning of the year and then fell of the bandwagon:(. So coming back again for support if that's ok with you nice people. I'm going to try & be quite frugal for the rest of the year.

Hi Munchin. Welcome back. How fast has this year gone as well!
Sending hugs to those in need of them.

Thanks huni. Nothing like a hug on a dreary day :)

Bit of spendy day at the car boot but bought 2 brand new dresses and what I thought was a dress but was a 'playsuit' as they call it all for £15! So a great buy really.
I'm not usually a dress person, I have a handful but usually wear cords, jeans, leggings and tops but I'm slowly converting to them for some reason.
Definately going to be much more thrifty this month. I remember saying that at the beginning of this month and it only seems like yesterday!
Well the weather says it's going to be POURING down tomorrow so hope everyone manages to have a good day despite it.
At least the ducks will be happy.

  • got a job interview for tuesday; rather excited :) and got told i will probably get an email or call from another company that i sent my cv to.

this weekend was a bit productive; i made butteroil (or ghee) to take with cod liver oil to help repair my teeth...

made enough washing powder to probably last me at least 3 months, cost abt £4.50 to make.

and today, i made banana bread to go in son's lunches for school.

watching a wee film on tv, called national treasure, its actually really good, although i wouldnt have paid to see it in the pictures :)

    hope ur all well :)
