Sweetie, I think the sheer effort of constantly thinking about and trying to calculate things, especially when you're trying to get to sleep, is The Enemy.
Perhaps this is the time to have a treat, bung loads of nice smelly stuff in the bath, perhaps a modest spend (choccy bar, fried egg sarnie, bag of chips, brandy?) whatever takes your fancy, and then get into your bed.
Then, think of thick Black Velvet (I read this somewhere and it has helped sometimes) visualise yourself in the arms of Orpheus (who can have any face that you wish) and off you drift ............

This has not been my best month, to put it mildly. My DH of 50 years, Bill, died on the 7th of bronchopneumonia. The best news though is that I have a wonderful family, and we've all been supporting each other. It seems a strange thing to say, but the funeral last Friday was a lovely occasion - a couple of people said it was the best they had ever been to.
It's taken me a while to tell you folks, even though I know just how supportive frugallers can be. The good news is that while I've unavoidably spent loads of money this month I'm now right back on the frugal bandwagon.
Went to L*DL testerday with DD4, and we each bought a trolleyfull of food etc, but stayed on budget - DD spent £60, and my smaller but still substantial shop was £40. Bill would have been proud of me. Went to the one in Frome (about 12 miles away I guess), and DD treated me to lunch out as I'd done the driving.
Today I started my own storecupboard challenge, as I do have a fair bit in the cupboards and fridge and freezer that ought to be used. Maybe I should not have bought the trolley full, but it was all things I was going to need, even though some of them could have waited a while. It doesn't matter anyway, as importantly, we both really enjoyed ourselves - we both needed that, and shopping in a less familiar store is always good, but particularly so when you get a lot of bargains!
I cooked a big pot of fridge soup tonight, with the end of an elderly lump of cheese grated over the top - delicious, and some left over for tomorrow's lunch. Will probably do a variation on rice and beans for tomorrow evening. The only proviso with my cooking, apart from being frugal, is that I nourish myself well. So I always have at least my 5 a day, usually more, and vary the protein and carb sources from day to day. Seems to work well, without costing a fortune.
Best of luck everyone else!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Oh Winchelsea - heartfelt sympathies to you & your family. I want to say something really nice but to be honest I'm at a total loss.
