Priority Boarding

Having this week flown with a 9yr old on Easyjet, Wizz air, Jet 2 and Ryanair - I can confirm that all offer free priority boarding with a child (as is the industry norm in terms of boarding)

Though it wasn't explicitly announced by EasyJet we just joined the queue and no questions were asked. All the others announced it prior to boarding.

with EasyJet is for children under 5
Group 1: Passengers who have purchased Speedy Boarding
Group SA: Passengers requiring special assistance and families (maximum 2 adults) where at least one child is aged 5 years or under.
    Group 2: All other passengers

guess it was easier to let you through than tell you to sit back down :-)

I remember boarding an EasyJet flight once where a woman was having a total strop as they tried to board in the group with children and were told no as the 'child' was 14 or so.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

So, I'm flying with Ryan Air in February. Its 2 adults and a 6 year old. We fly out East Midlands to Tenerife South and back Tenerife South to Doncaster. Will we get some type of Priority boarding without paying for it?

If you believe what people say about budget airlines then perhaps.

But the reality was that every flight was on time, all planes were clean and with the exception Jet2 were flying brand new planes with a cabin crew that were fine.
All were checked in online and so meant I could turn up about half hour before the gate closed. We had three bags to take on board, a small travel case, backpack and a tripod - No one batted an eyelid.

That is what most people experience, certainly what I have found to be the norm.

I can't comment on any other airline, but what I have experienced as the norm with Easyjet out of Luton (and coming back with them from Paris CDG) is that its one bag per person total, and they won't allow you to take anything extra (ie your tripod back or backpack would need to fit into your other case, and they would expect you to do this before you get past them at the gate). I flew back from Paris CDG with Easyjet less than a week ago, and they made everyone they saw in the line with a case and a backpack/handbag etc, stop and put their bag inside their case, before allowing them to pass the boarding gate. The only exception to this was the duty free bags - they allowed one duty free bag to be carried on board as well as their one hand luggage bag.

On both outward and return journeys last week, hand luggage cases were being checked for size also at the boarding gate.

No. If you want Priority Boarding it can be purchased at £5 per person per sector. However, Ryanair seem to sell as many PB tickets as they can (they even resort to selling them at the gate at Stansted). So if half the plane has purchased PB, it'll still be a scrum.
If you think that you can get anything on Ryanair without paying for it, you're going to be disappointed.
They have a limited Reserved Seating facility on some routes: £10 per person per sector.

i think mr wang is living in dreamland if he thinks that he got free priority boarding on ryanair just because he was with a child.
ryanair charge everyone regardless of age for priority boarding, except those travelling under special assistance, and the check-in staff will throw anyone out of the queue who has not paid.
easyjet only give you PB if the child is under 5.
don't know about jet2 or wizzair but...........

when people post this sort of misinformation it can affect other people who may be taken in by what they read here.

Jim, you are probably one of those people that think Ryanair are the root if all evil because the Sun told them so. In fact, you've probably never even flown Ryanair, I have, many times and every single time I've had kids with me I've boarded first, without trouble.
The most recent was Sunday night from Katowice, Poland to Manchester and the woman was going through the people at the gate suggesting those with children join the queue for priority boarding.
Now, you don't have to believe that, you don't even have to change your view on Ryanair (which I believe to be an excellent airline) but the fact is it is true.

So to the poster that asked about priority boarding with a child - no, you will be able to board first anyway.
