I'm perplexed. Where is the evidence that children eating sugar does actually cause diabetes ??
I recognise that people who are seriously overweight run a risk of developing diabetes in later life, but haven't seen anything about a specifically sugar rich diet causing it.
I certainly wouldn't consider it dangerous to give a child a satsuma AND grapes with their lunch, nor a slab of cake (provided they've had a sarny or something too)I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
OK - a couple of you have expressed interest in a campaign or protest or something to do something to stop the lunchbox police! I have had a couple of thoughts and need to do a bit of research, and will get back to you all.
I am going to start a new thread as I dont want to hijack this one!
any thoughts would be appreciated!0 -
Bril idea. My initial thought was educating the parents that the contents of their children's lunchboxes is not LAW, and they shouldn't be scared to challenge the Lunchbox Police0

Last week I bought sweet mince pies to eat at home and she wouldn't eat them as someone had taken one into school and they'd been told they are too fattening. That drives me insane as she's skinny and runs around like an idiot most of the time, so an odd mince pie isn't going to harm her! Persuaded her it was fine and she happily ate one.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Surely going round telling children off for eating particular foods because they are "fattening" is going to give them unhealthy ideas about food and eating. The important things is to have balance and things are generally okay in moderation. Unless a child clearly has an obesity problem, I really don't think at primary age they should be worrying about whether things are "fattening" - it should be a healthy balanced diet which is what you packed lunch was. And even if it wasn't, it is not the school's place to be telling your child off about it.
Especially as the people doing the telling-off aren't trained in nutrition and are just using random information they have about adult diets which doesn't always apply to children's nutritional needs.0 -
Looking forward to this dropping off the front page of family board.
Every time I see it I think :EasterBun
I really want some Soreen (please imagine that the chocolate in that image is replaced with malt loaf. oddly there does not seem to be an emoticon on MSE depicting malt loaf addiction.)0 -
Aside from the fact that they should speak to the parent rather than be telling the children off, this is the thing I find most disturbing. That bit has worried me a lot.
You've seen Charlotte in real life and anyone who has me on Facebook will have seen pics of her. There's no way she's got an obesity problem or needs to watch her diet. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Why not scan it and post it on here, for all to see, why should some things that benefit many be kept secretly to PM?0 -
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
