Orange - you cannot be serious!

I called Orange today to upgrade my talk plan from 600 minutes per month to 1200 minutes. That is an extra £10 per month, no problem.

I wanted to confirm that I can downgrade at any time. She said that if you are in contract (which I'm not) then you can only downgrade once. But if you are out of contract, then sometimes you can downgrade only once and sometimes any number of times.

I asked which applies to me and she said it depends on what the system lets her do.

This is ridiculous! How can you not tell your customers what the conditions are if you upgrade?

Anyone know the real answer?

Thanks,

Jon

  • On my contract it states that you have to wait at least 6 months on a new contract before you can downgrade. Ask for the new contract details to be posted out as it states the terms and conditions.

Dont matter what ORange says, law says the minimum term is served so you can jump up and down any current available priceplan OR the set of plans tariffs you are contracted to from your date of contract commencement.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

    Really?

Surely, provided the contract is still in effect both parties have to abide by it.
  • Your contract has expired? Good news. Why don't you move to 30 day SIM-only? Cheaper than an ordinary "with phone" tariff.

For once, I agree with the poster above.

In contract, you can move down one step after the first half of the contract served. After that, you can do what you like.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • Not according to two different Orange customer service advisor's. I phoned again and the lady said I can only go down once, even after initial contract period.

For a 30 day SIM, do I get to keep my same phone number? How much cheaper? I will pay £45pm for 1200 minutes.

This was obviously incorrect unless you buy another contract with more than 1 month min term.

    Yes.

    I don't see 1200, but 1000 is available for 12x£26 or for 1x£31.

At other providers you can get 1200 minutes much cheaper:
    1500 - 1x£25 - giffgaff
    1200 - 6x£18 - talkmobile
    1200 - 12x£20 - chitter-chatter
    2000 - 1x£25 - Three

It's very easy to port your number.
  • Simax knows what I think of the way Orange treated/treats agency workers at a particular call centre.

    So you want 1200 minutes?

3 do the "One Plan" - 2000 mins, 5000 texts, All-you-can-eat data and free voicemail for £25 a month on a 30 day rolling contract. If you get bored or dislike 3, you can jump ship quickly.

    Orange are expensive.
  • As others have said you need to move to a Sim only contract. Your original contract price pays for the phone too.
  • Two things come to mind on porting over to say a 3 SIM-only contract.

    1. How much does it cost to port my number?

    2. Will I get reception in my area with 3? I live in the sticks and its not great round here. With Orange, they have teamed up with t-mobile so I get 2 lots of masts to help out.
