Fossil lost my wedding present!

And why shouldn't the OP ask to be compensated? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

I wasn't saying he shouldn't, in the circumstances I would want to be compensated.
I was outlining that he asked if he could get compensation, then said he didn't want to.
It's pretty clear in my post, to be honest. At no point did I say he shouldn't, I suggest you re-read my post.0 -
You mean the post where you make no reference to any previous post by the OP. I don't see how re-reading it would do any good.
Hardly clear at all really. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I would ask for compensation (credit note being fine), and the market value of replacing the watch....
Compensation = being compensated for not being able to wear a product due to morons losing it in the first place. Regardless of Fossil messing around, your point of call is debenhams, they take the hit for there suppliers mess up...
Compensation could be £5 goodwill or £10, better than nothing, but i've been in same boat with them, over a DKNY watch (the strap), similar thing happened, i went nuts, and got replacement watch and £10 for leaving me timeless for 6 weeks!

If you don't want another watch, that's fine. You have no obligation to accept a credit note from Fossil. You could insist on a Debenhams credit note or even cash to buy an alternative watch.
The basic situation is that you left goods in the care of Debenhams. They or their agents lost it. You're entitled to recompense to allow you to replace the goods. That's a given, so now you're just negotiating the amount.
I'd certainly mention that it's a wedding gift with significant sentimental value. If you can find a suitable replacement from either Fossil or Debenham's ranges, you'll probably find you'll get away with a considerably higher amount than if they have to give you cold hard cash.0 -

Eh? Matty has made 2 posts in this thread - the 2nd in reply to you, the first quoting TWO of the OPs posts. (And no, it doesn't show as edited either).
Should have gone to Specsavers?
Yes, it was late and I worded it wrongly. What I meant to convey was that the poster, although he quoted the OP, didn't really explain what he meant by:doesn't really add upThe greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I think it was perfefctly clear what he meant by 'Doesnt add up' given the two posts that he directly quoted that contradicted themselves.
The contradiction didnt add up - but you knew that your just a very difficult stubborn person who thinks they are right all the time"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
