Fossil lost my wedding present!

I returned my watch faulty to Debenhams back in July, it was returned to me still faulty a month later. I returned it via Debenhams again and waited over a month with no news. On enquiring I was told it had been sent to a wrong store and Fossil are trying to get it back. Weeks later of waiting I went in again and was told the same story, I asked them to ring me on monday when they could tell me more info.
Debenhams phoned me today to say fossil had lost the watch and they are offering the market value of £105 in a credit note for a replacement watch.
Should I accept this? I must add it was a wedding present off my wife last year! Plus I really don't want another fossil watch now. Should I demand compensation from Debenhms?
Thanks for any advice

compensation for what? They need to put you back in the same position you were in when the watch was working - if you are able to repurchase the watch at the same price then they are doing all they need to do,
unless the watch was engraved, if it was they will need to cover the cost of doing this on the replacement item too.0 -
When I read this thread title, I have visions of you giving a Tyrannosaurus Rex responsibility for looking after the gift table at the reception?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
As above, compensation for what?!
If you're not happy with the market value they're offering, then insist that they replace it with another fossil watch, or another suitable alternative.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

How old is the watch? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I wasn't going to ask for any compensation, I just wanted to know my rights before I went in tomorrow. Do I have to have another fossil watch? They do not stock my design any more

If they don't stock it, then you're entitled to the market value, or perhaps a replacement of your choice, within reason... The replacement is often a good option, as you might be able to barter more than the market value they're offering.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

Sorry to ask again, but how old is the watch? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
The watch is now/was a year and 3 months old.0

I would be asking Debenhams how it was that the watch, which you left in their care, went missing in the first place. They have a responsibility to take reasonable care of your property and return it to you, in one piece. They have failed in that duty of care and they should compensate you for a new watch. The may not be legally obliged to, but certainly they should be morally.
How have they calculated the value of the watch? Is this how much it would cost to buy retail? How much was the watch when new?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
