The first one says 190W RMS and the second 100W RMS -do you really want this in the bedroom (if they are genuine figures). I would be surprised if they are genuine RMs probably more Peak.
I replaced our living room hifi last year and looked at the Sony (older peolple styled stuff) and 30WRMS per channel was enough. I eventually settled on a Denon with a genuine 30W RMS a channel and this is very powerful and very good quality mated to decent speakers. I listen to an eclectic mix of stuff and do like to wind it up.
Just looked for my son and we have gone fro a a 2.1 active speaker set up at 33W RMS total and that is more than enough cost £30. Uses his "MP3" player off his phone, has an 16GB micro SD card. Can also be hooked up to PC/Laptop/PS3 for music, gaming, radio. I think that is the way forward.
He uses Senheisser HD202 - approx £20/25 Amazon
A lot of these systems tend to be bass heavy in line with the trend.
Tape???? CD maybe. Doubt there will much to choose from a electronics quality front.
If he hasn't got an IPOD the external docks can look untidy and be a haven for gunk.
Have you tried them out?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

HI grizzly
No i just seen them on the net but your set up sounds good have you any links please?
I looked at several but we went for these in the end http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedlink-SL-8209-SBK-Vivo-Subwoofer-System/dp/B002VV9NZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321293551&sr=8-1
It sounds nice and it is good to have the volume and bass control on the front.
We were going to go for Altec Lansing http://www.amazon.co.uk/Altec-Lansing-VS2721-Speaker-System/dp/B0041VYFMI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1321293661&sr=1-1
But our supplier let us down and we couldn't get them when needed, at the right price. He is happy with the eventual choice and I think the Altecs may have been too base heavy with little subwoofer control (which you need even with equaliser control on your music)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

What about a cd etc player to fit to the speakers?
That Denon is a bit too much

Denon was for me not him;)
He uses his laptop to play the CDs or rips/downloads to his phone.
If the CD player is a must then I would certainly listen to the ones you mentioned first. It is the way in which they (manifested in this particular type of styling) reproduce the sound that can make the music get overtaken by the bass. But then I am sure he may like that."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Hi Fi eh, I had a pair of Goodmans Magnum K's, connected to a Ferrograph F307 and a Garrard SL75 deck.
What are these cassettes and CDs you speak of?
Cousin had a Quad system, still hate him. :rotfl:That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
