My Mum and Dad hope to spend a long weekend there at the end of February. What part of the city is best to stay in? I don't know anyone who's been there before. Hotels I've looked up for them are either in the Business district or Old Town district. So which area would be closest to the sites and shops?
A hotel recommendation would be lovely too!!
Thanks!!

Hi there,
haven't actually been to Prague yet, but we go in June. I went on tripadvisor and have been lucky enough to book a fab little place called Arcadia Residence. It is ranked the number one place to stay on Trip advisor and the reviews sound great. When I booked, the service was excellent and the owner replied straight away to all my email enquiries. Tripadvisor is great sight to look at and check places out before you book. Hope this helps!

We went a couple of years ago and stayed at the Hotel City Centre, Revolucni 4. A good budget hotel in a fabulously central location. Check it out at http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g274707-d280831-Reviews-Hotel_City_Centre-Prague_Bohemia.html.
Enjoy your trip - it's a beautiful city, and we saw tons of it using their excellent (and cheap!) transport system. Found my info sheet for you .... For information about public transport, including timetables, see: www.dp-praha.cz or www.cdrail.cz.
And choose Prague Public Transport. Direct links of maps of Prague public transportation are
here.
Now I've read all that, I wish I was going back ...."If you don't change today, your tomorrows will be like your yesterdays"0 -
We got a great deal at the Hilton last year. There are plenty of places though, and location isn't that important since the public transport is so good.
For getting around, buy a 3-day ticket from the kiosk at the airport. Then it includes your transfer. You get the bus No 119 to Dejvicka Metro station then transfer to your hotel. (There are 3 lines which all intersect centrally.) The trams connect with the Metro everywhere and are frequent and quick.
It's worth mentioning safety/security too. You are generally very safe around Prague, but the exception is if you encounter Roma gypsies, who to a man (and woman) are career criminals and nothing else. You can spot them by their swarthy, dark looks and aggressive, 'in-your-face' manner. Keep clear and keep wallets and handbags out of sight. Fortunately the police give them a hard time, including regular beatings if they accost them.
A restaurant you should try is 'Roidinny' on Nerudova St. There are plenty of bars and resaurants in that area, but this one is very good. The bars are all excellent value, don't forget to try the dark beer!0 -
Hubby and I went to Prague at the end of November and I would definatley reccomend staying in the Old Town. Its close to all the shops and a good base for seeing all the sites. We stayed just outside Wencelas Square and its actually quite tacky, McDonalds, cheap souvenier shops etc. Old town is beautiful and romantic and closer to the bridge, castle and all the other lovely sights. Hope they have a great time!0

I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.
Hope that helps0 -
You can get better cash back rates through http://www.quidco.com/travel/highest-rates-percent/
I always run a search through https://www.hotelscomparison.com to check hotel prices.
I stayed at a central hotel so we could walk everywhere, which was relaxing.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Would recommend Old town0
