so you clear out your cupboards at home and find you have a load of well-gone-past-it stuff. You go down to your local supermarket, pretending to eat said items on the way in - in full view of security, cameras etc.. You then sneakily replace your food with the same item off the shelf. Buy a couple of extra bits and voila.
Of course, someone is then on the receiving end :S
(note: never done this before, and not condoning the action!)0 -
Although you could point out thay have committed an offence under the Food Safety Act specifically: selling, to the purchaser's prejudice, food which is not of the nature or substance or quality demanded (section 14). It is likely they will just replace the product or refund you & maybe offer you a voucher as a goodwill gesture.
Generally speaking nobody is that bothered when Tesco sell food past it's best before date it is only when they are caught selling food that is past it's use by date that disciplinary action is taken usually in the form of a fine.
By all means talk to the CS dept and/or store manager about the issue & remind them they are committing an offence as that may encourage them to improve stock control in that store but don't expect anything other than a refund or replacement product trying to get anything more than that would be a complete waste of your time.0 -

Trouble is some stores FILL UP from the front so outdated products can appear @ times!!!
I've spotted 'UHT milk' many months out of date and had to it point out. I've also bought some without realising in another.
Chilled meats I've had to point out too..0 -

Good point. Its best before.
But if it makes me ill surely they need to deal with it?0 -
They will refund your money but you need to ask them to make a complaint and then they will also send you some vouchers. Had the same issue with Jam but it was only 6 months out of date.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.
Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz0 -
Few years ago, I bought some dry pasta and Mum bought a Mr Kipling pack of battenburgs from a local village shop. (Not our nice village shop, but we were doing a craft fair at the church so we nipped in). Got home, Mum rang to say, have you looked at the 'use by' date on your pasta, as my cakes are six months over! Laughing, I grabbed the pack and saw it was out of date by....... four years. I must admit I just laughed - the shop was a bit like the one in 'League of Gentlemen' and I wasn't going back in a hurry!!! And, after much pondering - we ate the pasta and it was fine!0
