New Desktop for Christmas

  • Hi,

Thank you both for your responses. My mum is not on benefits so I don't think that will help!

    Also I've seen this PC

    http://www.ebuyer.com/251310-zoostorm-desktop-7873-1036

But it doesn't contain an OS but does seem to have a decent setup and reviews!

I got myself one of these earlier this year and stuck Windows 7 x64 on it, runs like a dream, only thing I had a splash put on was a new wireless card as my existing one refused to work on Win 7.

It is a tad noisy mind so be careful if you want it in a quiet room.
  • Hi All,

I'm still to get the money from my family and some of the offers previously mentioned have now expired! I repeat that I have about £240 to spend.

One option I was also looking at is a barebones style and then building up. The only experience of this I have though is installing RAM into a laptop. I thought barebones approach because my mum already has a monitor keyboard and mouse.

Is here http://www.novatech.co.uk/barebonebundles/ a good place for barebones and if I was to go down this route, what else would I need to buy? I see the DVD-writer is missing, can a cheap one be recommended? Anything else, or is the DVD-writer and Windows 7 all that would need purchasing?

    Thanks in advance
  • And obviously a new Hard drive! Not much space is required so again, any recommendations?

    Thanks
  • Have you tried your local independent PC/Repair shop?

I got a refurbished/trade in for my Aunt a couple of months back for just short of £200 (box only - she has her monitor/mouse/keyboard). They also took in her old machine, copied her e mail accounts, files and everything else over.

To her, everything was just like her old machine - apart from being at least four times faster, double the memory, smaller, quieter etc. etc.
