I've had a look through the dell outlet store which I know changes hourly but I think a decent one there is frustratingly just out of my price range. Shame there are not free delivery/discount codes as I think they'd be affordable then!
You could certainly do worse than the eBuyer system. Can't comment about the Upgrade disc.
Keep an eye on the Argos Outlet website. Something might appear.
Currys Outlet has some old tat.
PC World and ACER? As long as nothing goes wrong, you'll be fine. Though you do get more for your money with the ACER.0 -

seems reasonable, of course some people have had problems but a rating of over 8 with 88 reviews would imply that it is a generally good unit,
as to PC world i dont rate them, however a 12 month warrenty should provide some coverDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Thanks TakeThis!
I'll get the money together and scout these websites everyday and hopefully get the best deal before Christmas0 -

i know about the Acer and PC world concerns (although Currys is PC world and have the same offers) but i am going down the idea that a desktop should get somewhat less abuse than a laptop so in theory so long as its not broken when it arrives (in which case they would be covered by the distance selling law) it should be ok, and the revoo comments are on the higher side of things especially when in general with reviews most people generally only write them to complain about somethingDrop a brand challenge

I have two ACER machines. One a Netbook from PC World. Both years old, so no complaints there.
But if something does go wrong, don't expect any technical expertise from PC World.0 -

I agree about PC world, I think I'd get better technical expertise asking google and definitely in here!
I'm decent enough with setting everything up I am just usnure of the best places to buy and want to minimise the number of calls I'll get afterwards asking 'how do I do this' etc!!
Anyway, you've all been very helpful and I'm sure my mum will be happy!
Obviously, if any other outlets spring to mind then please let me know
Thanks0 -
You can get the best one by getting the parts Assembled. You can get different parts like Ram, processor, DVD writer, graphics card which are the best ones and get it Assembled by the Technician.
This method will cost you less with good quality.
Go on then.... put together a system, pricing it as you go along, together with links to the prices.0 -
Have you considered a Nettop (it's like a netbook, but for the desktop)?
Something like this perhaps http://www.ebuyer.com/279899-acer-aspire-revo-r3700-nettop-pt-semec-037
That comes with Linux installed though, not Windows, so you'd have to get a separate Windows install disc. Also there's no CD drive, but you can pick up external CD/DVD drives for nothing these days, £20 - £30 max
It should be more than enough if all she does is web browsing, itunes and word processing0 -
