Kaspersky and Norton are really the only ones I'd recommend to those who don't know much about PC's.

On what basis? I haven't used Kaspersky but Norton is awful, I'd never recommend it to anyone over Avast, which is very simple to install, doesn't seem to slow me down at all, and of course is free.

were in 2011 now not 1999.. Norton is one of the best again now... the only downfall to norton is the price.. you can get adequate protection for a lot less than norton charge..

    with regards to op

AVG was one of the first free ones and was suitable for a while, MSE and Avast became the choice for people then. but Kaspersky has always been up there along with nod32 so whilst the free ones are suitable they can change in regards to which is better so may aswell stick with KS imo.. after all your getting it free also...
  • AVG and ms security essentials both good if you dont want to spend any £££
  • AVG and Avast both advise to switch to paid if you bank online. Who doesn't bank oline these days? Are there pros and cons with ms security essentials?

Good/honest? May be but they are suggesting you upgrade to Avast paid Security.
    Perhaps it's worth downloading Rapport..

avast and all AV companies have to make money, there is no need to switch to "paid for" if you bank online, it's marketing, they have to differentiate the versions otherwise noone would pay. The free version is better than many paid for or free alternatives.

  • I reckon I will give kaspersky a try, if I don't like it, it's not much hassle going back to Avast, not like I am losing any money. thanks guys
