Swapping / switching mobile numbers

Here's the thing

DD is on Vodafone contract, never uses her minutes but uses loads of text.

DW is on 02 (was trying to switch to 02 for phone & broadband but they couldn't do it after 3 attempts so i gave up now stuck on o2 mobile contract which isn't great value) needs more minutes, doesn't use many texts

Is it possible to port DD's number to DW's phone & port DW's number to DD phone.

Or is it easier just to switch sims & get them to update their contacts with a new number.

DD likes idea of getting DW's newer blackberry where messenger actually works!

I suspect I'm making this more complicated than it is.

anywho any advice greatly appreciated

No. Porting a number out always terminates the contract.
