Small tumble dryer?

Options
I'm looking for a very small tumble dryer to use when I get out of hospital as I wont be able to peg anything up for a good few weeks. As my flat is rented I can't move any appliances to accommodate the dryer so I'd be looking for a counter top model.

I'm stuck for space, there isn't enough space for the amount of clothes horses I'd need to hang my laundry and aren't any nearby launderettes and none of the further out ones will collect laundry from a private individual.

If there's no such thing as a counter top tumble dryer does anyone know of an effective way to dry clothes indoors?

  • There are 'mini' tumble driers - one in particular is badged white knight, creda and servis, I think - it's the same one all the way, but one brand is cheaper than another. However, it's not that small and the condensation caused can be horrendous, complete with the resultant black mould on the walls.

Some people swear by hanging things up on airers and using a dehumidifier instead. That would be much smaller and probably slightly more useful.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Would something like this be suitable?

I don't have the space for a dryer either, and I was thinking of getting this myself!
  • Lakeland have a fantastic heated towel.airer, which is more of a clthes horse, and is fab and low energy for drying your clothes. Have a wee look, and see if it looks any use to you. Nice to hear you talking about getting out. :)

  • Pre kids we had a white knight table top tumble dryer like this one --->

    Did the job.
Hope your recovery goes well x

  • We used to have a white knight one that was about 3/4 the size of a normal appliance and did fit on top of our freezer below a large fitted to the ceiling cupboard. In terms of energy efficiency it was "blow a hole in the planet's future" rated but it didn't half get yer clothes dry!
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • another one to recommend the Lakeland heated airer. The advantage is that it folds up, or can be used as a standard airer if not switched on.
It dries stuff overnight- think it is 3p ph to run...so far more economical than a tumble drier.

you will find that a "normal size" tumble drier will actually fit quite happily on a standard size kitchen worktop, it will need to be situated near an outlet for the extractor hose to vent :money:

Actually it doesnt if you buy a portable condenser from ebay.I did put a link but it shows my personal details. Type in tumble dryer condenser. They are only 7.35. Saves buying a condenser tumble dryer(i dont like them) and saves alot of hassle.

yes that is definitely an option if no external vent is possible although this may result in unwanted heat being emitted within the home, i am not convinced that the cold water contained in this product will eliminate this, and maybe the noise is slightly worse, a good tip is if there is a rarely used extractor fan in the kitchen then this can be removed to make use of the 100mm hole for the tumble drier vent instead :money:

Having had major surgery, I guess the last thing you want to be doing is hanging things over airers, electric or otherwise. Much easier to just open a door and throw everything in, and remove and fold when dry.

I know you are in a rental flat and can't move stuff around, but if you got a condenser tumble drier you could put it anywhere in the flat you have a power socket. Even the bedroom, if that's the only place you have the floor space! If you think you would only use it for a few weeks/months while you recover, you could hire not buy or see if you can get one on free cycle. Though you probably want a reliable one so in your shoes I'd hire myself as you will know it works properly.
