I've got a feeling it's more to do wi't'internet itself tonight.....earlier on my snrm nose-dived to 0.4dB and CRC's went through the ceiling, bit-loading on DMT showed large gaps at various frequencies around 750-1000 kHz...like something was switched on somewhere Could be backhaul maintenance somewhere...

BUMP!

I rang BT who checked it and said I should be getting up to 15mbps but probably around 11 and that there was no problem, I kept saying that there was a problem in that I'm barely getting 1! They didnt understand this though.

Any other ideas as to why in the last week its been throttled?

Would changing the router help do you think? I'm currently using the 1st Gen BT Home Hub but I do have a spare 2.0 Home Hub. Would changing it help?

not if your IP profile has become stuck at 1 meg.....ask BT to reset your IP profile

Did BT get you to run their speedtest?

This will tell you your IP profile which is what you need to look at.

If it's at something like 500Kps then you need to ring BT and ask them to reset your profile if it has been reduced by them or automatically by the exchange. However it can take a few days for it to go back up.

Sorry, meant to say as well, its not "stuck" at 1 mbps. It swings wildly between 6-7 and 1, the last few nights has been unuseable though.

The first thing you need to run is the Speed tester before you call.

Once you have your IP profile you can tell them that info over the phone.

Just tell them that your speed is really slow and it is running at x amount and that it normally is y amount.

If the IP profile is low then they need to test your line for errors. Also you need to see if your router is losing internet connection by the internet light going off and on. That might be the cause of it.
