Council Tax Valuation

Hi Littlejaffa
We are trying to appeal our council tax (in Scotland) as we recvd an increase due to the people before us extending the property. We recvd this 6 months after we moved in. Can you let me know what you mean by "also remember all the rules about house prices/banding going up when you improve a house doesn't apply in scotland - it's the value of your home at april 91", as that is what the council are basing our increase on. We are trying to argue that it the is 1991 sale price that counts and nothing else but we are stuggling. Where did you get this info from, it may help us in our appeal. (Got an appeal date for May).
Many thanks.

Is this lies? It seems that the moral is to check a.s.ap when you move.
Read all about the steps to take by clicking the link below. You dont have to move or alter your house, just be carefull though,if you appeal it might go up as well as down.

So Seven, how has your workload been so far this week - loads or not too many?

I followed Martin's instructions to the letter, and sure enough, one of my neighbours is in Band E, whereas the others, (there are only 3 of us), are in Band F. I have sent all the details off correctly, and with luck, I should get my banding reduced, dated back to 1991! We all moved in, in 1987, when all three bungalows were built, all of the same size, same amount of ground for each property, very similar in build etc., (slight variation for each property), and identical facilities for each. YET, one is in Band E, and the others in Band F! Is this not proof positive that the "second gear" valuations were in force at the time? I will let you know if I get a result, and thanks again Martin. Cheers, Woodville.

Well found! :T
I found the only way to make it work though was to leave my cursor over the "go" button after I'd clicked it and then be patient for a couple of minutes. If I click on GO and then move my cursor away to carry on with other stuff while it's loading it just does nothing...."Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can change the world"

Yippee!! Proud to be dealing with my debts :j0 -
It could be that you are in the correct band and your band E neighbour is wrong - they may not thank you for getting theirs increased.Woodville wrote:I followed Martin's instructions to the letter, and sure enough, one of my neighbours is in Band E, whereas the others, (there are only 3 of us), are in Band F.
