Iphone 4s contract, is it too good?

I am looking at getting a new contract out as mine runs out in January. I have been looking at the Iphone 4s and found a cheap deal, but it seems to good to be true?

mobiles.co.uk/vodafone-apple-iphone-4s-16gb-black.html

Its vodafone contract, 600 mins Any Network Anytime + Unlimited Texts + 500MB data for £36 a month and phone is free. To me that is a cheap deal for the new iphone. Is this too good to be true?

Is the new iphone worth getting or is there not much difference between 4 and 4s.

Thanks

It's got a much faster processor, a better camera, can record video in higher resolution, and there is a 64GB version. Games designed/updated to take advantage of the 4s will have better graphics than on an iPhone 4.

It's up to you if you think it's worth getting or not. Personally I won't be replacing my iPhone 4 with a 4s.

The only notable difference in everyday use is the better camera. Siri is not that good at the moment due to its lack of functionality in the UK, and you will not really notice any difference with the speed unless your playing games that require a lot of processer power.

The battery is not better, the screen is not better, and the os is not better than the Iphone 4.

    24x£36=£864

£500 - new phone from Apple
£10 - monthly cost of the airtime on 12-month contract (chitter-chatter, 500 texts). £12 at talkmobile with 3000 texts.

    £500+24x£10=£740

Was it really too good to be true?
Effectively you pay 24x£26 for the phone that costs £500. This equals to 25% APR.

I disagree with the way you are comparing the tariffs, You are making one cost comparison over 2 years and one cost comparison over 1 year

    A fairer comparison would be

    Vodafone = 36 x 24 = £864 £864 - £499 = £365 for the tariff over 2 years, so that works out at a tariff cost of £15.20 per month.

Giffgaff is £499 upfront for the phone and 24 x 10 so thats £240 over 24 months.

Its still cheaper , but only by £5.20 a month, and you don't have to fork out £499 upfront for a phone.

For me, the downer is a two year inflexible commitment that will hang round your neck irrespective of whether you lose or damage the phone. I'd keep using yours excellent ecisting handset, then get the iPhone 5 next year.

    No, I multiplied £10 by 24, not 12.

Correct. 24x£5.20 p.m. is effectively the cost of the credit you get for iPhone.
Giffgaff is £499 upfront for the phone and 24 x 10 so thats £240 over 24 months.
    That's exactly my calculation.

'Only' £5.20 p.m is a delusion. It's 25% APR that I quoted - more than many credit cards charge, let alone loans and interest free offers.
Instead of paying £500 upfront you pay 24x£26.
Copy and paste into Excel =RATE(24,-26,500)
Result: 0.08154 - monthly interest rate.
    (1+0.08154)^12-1=0.25=25% APR
    As simple as that.
