edited 13 November 2011 at 3:22PM in It's gone, but was it any good?
been wanting a new cordless drill for a while now and saw in the paper b&q had some adverts in there for dewalt and makita 18v for £99 with 2 batteries problem was they where ni-cad batteries which can die after 4-5 years aftersome research which is what happened to my old cordless drill.

anyway discovered on there website bosch one which comes with li-ion batteries which they are supposed to last years longer and stay charged longer overall.

went to my local small b&Q and had run out but they did have some stolen apperantely so went to a bigger one and had loads but i would imagine they will not be there for long at that price as its usually money is the batteries.

anyway the drill itself is brill has a light to light up where you are drilling, battery idicator and lots and lots of other features well happy!

b&Q

better spec write up bosch

I hope this helps some of you out there make an excellent christmas present.

And the cheaper AEG & Makita will bury them both. ;)

I'd say the Bosch was the better buy. And forget the alternatives with the Ni-Cad batteries - these fail pretty quickly, and you end up throwing the whole drill away because of the ridiculous cost of replacements.

  • I got myself this set of Hitachi's on Lithium-ion batteries from Screwfix at £125 (price has gone up) but it's still a bargain as you get two..

It comes with it's own carry case etc., and I am so glad I didn't pay extra for the Bosch badge.

This drill is now down to £85 until the 5th instore and online (Don't forget quidco)

    Accessory pack £15

I know very little about drills and am a total girl with things like this but the research I have done has shown this to be good value and the reviews are excellent. OH will have such an exciting Christmas now!!

I wouldn't touch Hitachi after the troubles I had with the drill you have mentioned. Both batteries died within 6 months, trade counter manager said they were getting a lot of these returned for the same reason. Took it back to B&Q and swapped it for a Makita with Ni-Cad batteries. Best thing I ever did.

    Just a heads up!!!!!

There was a time (way, way back in the 1970s) when you could trust the Hitachi name absolutely.

Not the case for a long time now, though.

I was looking at this and the guy in B&Q pointed out that the chuck capacity was not as big as usual - despite the description, It looked smaller than 13mm. Hitachi's need 2 hands to twist the chuck, and I've been told that Lion is not all that is cracked up to be. Personally, I'm confused - can anyone recommend a good drill for DIY between £100 - £150 ??
