Autoglass requesting £££!!!
Hi all,
Hoping you can assist.
I had Autoglass come out back in July to fix my broken rear window and when the guy asked for my insurance, I handed him over my documents. He then went back in his van made a few calls and noted down some details. He then said I only need to pay £75 and got the job done, signed some documents and off he went.
However, I have now recently received a letter stating my insurance did not cover job done and now want payment in full which is £700 +.
Is this right, can they do that and if that was the case I would have not allowed him to do job.
Is there anything I can do??:(
Hoping you can assist.

This is probably the important bit of your post:signed some documents
Do you still have a copy of the paperwork that you signed?
This may well state something along the lines of
"If in the event of this bill not being covered by my insurance company, I understand that I will be liable for payment".
Have you contacted your insurers to ask why they have not paid the bill?0 -
My insurance has chosen one particular glasss company, with whom they've done a national deal. Sounds like yours may be similar, and its not Autoglass. What does your insurance handbook say? What does the paperwork you've signed with Autoglass say?0

Did you contact your insurance company before calling Autoglass?
Not long ago I neded a new windscreen, so called my insurance company for approval. They noted the claim and explained that I had to pay the excess myself, and gave me a reference number.
If your insurers didn't know you were getting a new windscreen they may have bounced back the claim from Autoglass, so give them a call to see what the problem is.
Hope this helps.0 -
Was the rear window broken or had the rear demister failed, it might depend on what the fitter noted at the time.
One is a breakage the other is electrical failure, could be the reason.0 -
Autoglass have a reputation for being very expensive (see last Saturday's Honest John in the DT) and that is perhaps the reason why some insurance companies don't use them. I agree with G & S above - give your insurers a call.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

to be fair autoglass to flog the 'most insurers recommend us, so no need to call your insurers' line that will presumably prompt a lot of people to opt not to call their insurers and let autoglass 'sort it all out' for them.
although i can see where this might go a little awry if your insurers is one of the ones who hasn't done a deal with autoglassCome on, it's not rocket surgery is it?0 -
What do you mean by the window was broken - smashed or element, etc. not working?
Did you call your insurance and they arranged for Autoglass to come out or did you call Autoglass direct?
As mentioned, many insurance companies have preferred suppliers so if you didn't go through your insurance approved one then you don't have much hope of avoiding the bill as its equivalent to arranging it privately..0 -
hi,
thank you for your replies.
i arranged this with autoglass but did not agree to anything before i checked with my insurance. later that same day the autoglass guy turned up, did the checks as mentioned above and said to just pay £75 as that was all i needed to pay. which i did and end of. i will be ringing my insurance tomorrow to find out if i am covered or not.
regarding docs i signed, it does state i am liable to pay in full if unable to recover from insurers.
is there nothing i can do or am i stumped!0 -
the window was smashed if this makes a difference0
