I usually think of forums as a place for like minded people to get together unless it is labelled specifically for debate.
No, you're thinking of a club. The idea that debate is encouraged is implicit in the meaning of the word forum. Unless they mean the definition of it as a town marketplace, which I doubt.
Anyways, your analogy is flawed. If HPC was an american hotrod forum it would be banning people for not believing global warming was a fraud.0 -
An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.
The name of the forum generally gives you the basis of that discussion, in HPC case they wish to discuss falling prices.
By all means I am not a member as the one sided nature of the place would do my head in.
But as I keep saying if you don't like something stop looking at it, many on here seem to hate HPC with a passion yet still check it everyday.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

I was quite happy to discuss falling house prices i.e. in my view they've already fallen pretty sharply from peak and now they're going to bump along statically for a few years. They'd post something, you'd post something, you'd argue, you'd agree, it kept ticking over and you'd get other points of view to consider. You know, like we're doing now.
Typically what happens now though is that the first few posts in such a thread would discuss falling house prices. The next 50 are then the man (living) on the street telling you what he thinks of public sector workers buying btl's and stuffing them full of benefit scrounging immigrants and keeping prices high. Whether that's actually happening or not is immaterial to them. And anyone who argued back against any of this notion was banned.
yeh, it's not important really is it, but I just want to let the "aha! You troll!" bears on here know that most people chucked off that site aren't trolls, bulls or anything, they just weren't as one-eyed and rabidly tory as the clientele that's now encouraged over there.0 -

I agree, I will admit I am certainly more bearish but even I steer clear of the place.
Its the constant posting in this forum with the 'Ha Ha take that HPC" when 99% of us don't care.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

What you've got to remember is that the site was set up whilst houseprices were screaming upwards. There was a healthy debate about how long it could continue. Indeed the site had you describe yourself as either a bull or a bear. Then the small crash happened in 2008. This pised the bears off no end as they had envisaged a much larger crash. The recovery of 2009 further incensed them. From 2008 onwards debate has been stifled by overmoderation of the site leading to most who do not think a crash is around the corner being unable to post.0 -

Bizarre isn't it, you describe them as rabid Tory and our resident Biggles describes them as [STRIKE]Commie[/STRIKE] Socialist

Well I stumbed into here via the Gambling, Familes and Discussion forums - and I should say that I think you're all a bit mean to newbies...
For my own part, I'd like prices to stay static for a few years (when I hope to upgrade my house to one a bit bigger) and then I don't give a stuff what happens.0 -

I don't think we are ALL mean....just about 80 percent of us (and I'm fairly bullish on figures relating to poor behaviour in this forum, on mse as a whole and in society large). Although I should admit a vested interest in this and see my bullishness over manners as a worrying trend for society.
