Ahh right so all members can see.
Sometimes I wish this board had a jargon buster.
whats a bull?
whats a bear?
whats all flipping fuss about hpc?
I do wish at times people could be less bias on here.
People who own-fab really happy for you as most people dont begrudge homw ownership or that aspiration.
People who rent- ie including me get fed up of people saying ahh its
dead money/waste.
if thats your only option and morgage not viable and we have roof over our heads, jobs and family then we happy.
one thing realised over the years as my dad was hit badly by 90,s reccession so was my aunt she had her home repossed and lived in ha property for nearly 2years before she could get back on ladder is
Housings about
timing
demand
luck
its hard finding the right time as no one can truly forsee the future!
I have freinds who brought the wrong property at height of market and in neg equity now but cant sell.
I have other freinds only on ladder as family gave them a deposit.
when i worked fulltime combines salary of £52,000 got offered morgage for £120,000 which wouldent have brought a house in reasonably nice area. we have 3kids so need 3beds.
plus we need to save least 20grand deposit!
Also hate the assumption that young people who rent a,ll have flatscreen, go out, iphones and travel abroad instead of buying.
Yes houseprices have fallen in some areas but some areas held mine included.
its very hard for people to get on ladder.
So what would be nice at times on here is those who do own to offer sensible practical advice to ftb and not gloat about their equity, morgage overpayments or buy to let empire and make fun of everyone who rents.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

This Board used to be a mixture of vile racism, politics/the economy, with a core of extremely knowledgable and witty people. Some of whom have been banned and, it seems, not returned. There was also a fairly even mix of male/female, and many different experiences.
Even when the wonderful Generali left for Australia, he still brought his wisdom back to us, and with him, and everyone else, I have learnt so very very much. With people's links to various news items, we have been drawn to things we would not normally have discovered.
The moderators sometimes foolishly think that some of the items should really be in the discussion forum, but we are a little group of internet acquaintances and I feel that it's pretty much the same as going to a dinner party without having to drive home, and I still come to the Board first of all in my day to see what people have to say.
Love the Board and some of the posters - and miss the lovely ones who seem to have left!0 -
because we are an embarrassment to the site owner.

I'm a sockie, but only in the way i didn't want people from other forums knowing my business.
I found this place one lonely new years eve when there was a HNY thread and i was just looking for some "nice" friendly banter.
I had a look over the few days and decided to hang around though i have little real interest in house prices or politics.
It's the NPT that keeps me interested.0 -
I sort of stumbled across it....think it was a sub forum off the main housing board at the time.
In reality, I shouldn't really be here as I don't own a home and have no intention of ever having a mortgage ever again, so no real vested interest in the housing market but I find it interesting and it feeds my obsession for house prices, present ever since we were repossessed back in the 90's recession.
I vowed back then that I would never be without the knowledge (you just never know when you are going to win the lottery
), that if the opportunity came, I would use all the information I could get and would be fairly well informed.
I don't know why I appear to fit in here but the fit feels right, it's where I feel I belong and not feel like a fish out of water (as I do on discussion time). We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Thanks Sue. I've kind of wondered on and off what brought you here originally, although I think I know why you stay. I understand exactly what you mean about feeling you belong but not knowing why. That's how I feel too.
I found my way onto the main housing board before this one was created. I was thinking about buying a house at the time, so house prices were important to me. When this board came into existence, I found myself spending more time on here than the original housing board, and even at the time I couldn't be sure why. Somehow I became part of the NPT, and that's what keeps me coming back.
I haven't really been terribly interested in house prices since I bought my house in Jan this year. I do read occasional threads on here, and I will always be grateful for the huge amount of economics I learnt in my first few years.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'm similarly grateful, though being of a certain age, I can't remember anything I read.
There are some down-sides to being a Boomer.

Stumbled across this site around 2006/07, !!!!!!, Dopester and NDG were the first posters I remember 'bumping into' The reason I am still here is addiction, I suppose it could be worse it could be gambling or Heroin  it is a serious time machine though, you log in and time just evaporates.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
