cheap bulking out ideas for stockings?

  • I am so glad I found this thread, given me loads of ideas to pad out my children stockings, who are 7,. 9 &11.

My 11yr old ds is lego mad, so those mini figures for £1.95 will be added, also some playmobil mini figures will also be added, along with a few packets of trading cards.

A big hit last year was a wwe bumper pack from the entertainer for £2.99 and in there was a folder to put the cards in, and 10 packets of cards, (they also did and still do girly ones), this is still going strong a whole year on....

Do they like particular wash stuff, new toothbrushes, the sort of things you'd need to buy them through the year?

  • Thanks for this thread, I understand my stocking contents from the days of yore much more now - bars of girly pink soap, big bottles of bubble bath, crackers (not the Ritz ones, xmas ones), 12" jumbo pencils, big tubes of sweeties, and those cheap toys which came on big cardboard backings....

Now I've got lots of tips for my son's stocking - just need to start looking NOW rather than panic overspending on Xmas eve when I put everything in and I realise it's only enough to fill a trainer sock :o
  • When I was younger and still got stockings (oh, the days!) my mum wrapped some really random, funny things she had found in charity shops up and stuck them in my stocking. It was hilarious. Think, tiny little figurines of something strange, peculiar little animals.
Other than that, go to poundland and check the toys and crafty section. You might find packs of crafty bits or mini toys that can be split up and stuck into each stocking. Also, Wilkinsons sometimes do lego figurines in those little packets quite cheap, if you have lego-ish children? In fact, Wilkinsons full stop is great if yours has a toy section.
  • I remember being really pleased with a packet of crisps one year in my stocking.
This really made me smile! I wish I was small again as little things made me so happy so easily back then!
  • For teens, new socks, gloves, belts are good.
Trying to avoid buying loads of plastic.
Christmas is a good time to top up the school stationary - do they need new coloured pencils/pens/maths set?
Like the idea of putting in a snack as well/instead of chocolate.

Super Matey bubble bath, flannel, bath sponge, a magazine (rolled up into a tube and then wrapped to look like a cracker). I always buy a box of Christmas tissues too (Kleenex usually do a sparkly design at Christmas).

ETA Tube of Pringles, pack of Jaffa Cakes, bucket of popcorn (Butterkist do these sometimes)
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

For outdoor type kids, you can get a compass, torech and a few other things at Poundland. Obviously not the best quality, but but not bad for a quid.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

I would never have thought of putting a magazine in......what a brilliant idea, and one that is guaranteed to put a smile on their faces! thanks :)
