Most people fly to Pisa for Florence from where there are good rail and coach connections. Hotel Alba, fairly close to the station, has good reviews.

I think Del Nazione has been refurbished since 2002 but see Tripadvisor for latest comments

We've booked up for Hotel Davazanti in May after doing a fair bit of research. No.1 rated on tripadviser and great reviews elsewhere too. Price currently shows as €137 but you may be able to find a discount or offer through the usual sites.

Alternatively just work your way down the TripAdvisor ratings till you find one you like - although I wouldn't pay much attention to their "average price" on the list page. Hotel Europa seemed decent enough and a bit cheaper.

I have stayed in the Hotel Davazanti and I'll highly recommend it. Beautiful hotel, right in the heart of the old town and the owners are really friendly and helpful. Make sure you book the Uffuzi via them and avoid the long queues.

    Enjoy Florence, it's fantastic

Can I ask who you are flying with? We want to go to Florence later this year and are struggling to find direct flights. Thanks

    Try a search on https://www.travelsupermarket.co.uk

There are direct flights to Florence but the very cheap ones go to Pisa.

The Davazanti looks great but they appear (on Venere.com) to not have any available rooms for August. Has anyone tried booking directly?

Why don't you check the hotel's own site? August is a 'bargain' month in Florence for hotels as many places close in August including the best ice-creamery. Another hotel with special offers if you book direct is the Calzaiuoli which is on the street between the Duomo and the Accademia. I always try to stay there if possible.
