I would go with Tesco Lite. http://www.tesco.net/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=84
Text 4p - calls 8p per minute.
I use my phone very rarely - might go a month sometimes without using it.0 -
Asda Mobile? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Vectonemobile, icardmobile0

Orange, I think.
You can online I know.
Just remember to make a call for a few seconds every few months if its not going to used much to avoid it getting disconnected. . .0 -
Orange even do 10p top ups.

GiffGaff for one .
NOT TRUE. :mad:giffgaff_website wrote:What's the minimum/maximum I can top-up?
You can top-up in £5 increments between £10 and £30
Promotional/bonus £5 credits are available, but NOT regular £5 top ups.

A network based on proliferation via internet messageboards, websites and social media does very well for misinformation and a rather evangelical over-egging of the service by enthusiastic customers. It is a very good offer, granted, but is repeatedly misrepresented all over the place.
I would definitely recommend icardmobile to the OP. £5 top ups, 6p/min mobiles and 3p/min landlines, each fiver top up will last for a very long time. Even includes free calls to other icardmobile numbers (no regular top up requirement like giffgaff) provided you have a balance of at least 10p. Free calls can last up to 10 mins, but you can redial as often as you like. Voicemail is free, too, but they probably won't be needing it.0 -
The poster above is correct. You cannot top up with just £5 on giffgaff. The minimum is £10.
I would recommend Tesco Mobile. Cheap calls at just 8p per minute, and cheap texts at 4p.0 -
Why not get a Sim Zero from Three? That way, they only pay for what they use, and there's no requirement to use it every -x- months or get cut off, and there's no chance of them being stranded without credit.

Sim Zero is a standard contract with no monthly charge. The downside is that it is NOT capped in any way, and if the phone is lost or misused they become liable for the full cost of all calls until it is switched off. They also have to agree to a Direct Debit, and have their details passed to a Credit Reference agency. Whilst I like 3UK, I would suggest you stick with TRUE PAYG where your costs are controlled by the credit remaining.0
