When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :D

oh my gawd! Just poodled on to the DFW board to work out my plans for the day & the thread hasn't been started!??! What is going on with our dwindling small things community??? Guys we need to take action to make sure we don't fall off the grid  I'd be so sad to loose the thread such a source of support & encouragement to me!

Have been extremely inspired over on the OS board yesterday by a poster that has £100 to feed a family of 4 for a month. I am going to pledge a grocery spend of £180 for the next month & then try to reduce it further...

today am going to just do a small list in the hope of completing that rather than a big list I won't. Motivation still an issue for me at the moment...

  • [STRIKE]go through cupboards & fridge/freezer and make meal plan for over the weekend.[/STRIKE] Using nothing but what we have
  • making big batch of chilli today using 500gms mince, quorn, veg, lentils & any beans in the cupboard. Freeze some for meals during the week
  • [STRIKE]freeze leftover mash for a meal in the week[/STRIKE]
  • go for a run - no karb I wasn't planning on doing 2 runs yesterday :rotfl:in fact didn't even manage 1 :o
  • make banana bread
  • work out which cake I am going to make for work thing on Monday
  • flylady bathroom
  • call Bg must do this today!
tonight I am going to a comedy night with oh & a friend & her dh. She had 2 spare tickets last minute so we are going. She is giving me mine as a birthday present in a couple of week :T

Hope you all have qa lovely weekend x

meal plan done:
Sat: B: weetabix & sugar
L: cauiflower soup & bread/tuna pitta
D: chilli & jacket pots (using up veg & 1/2 tin of toms that needs eating) & Banana cake

Sun: B: sausage sandwiches
L: gammon steaks, stuffing, potatoes & LO veg
T: egg on toast & pinapple cake & custard

I need to buy eggs & gravy. Will look out for reduced foods ;)

ok have done a meal plan & shopping list for a week. Using what I have & mysupermarket.co.uk & have worked it out for £41- I have put on extras that are on offer that we would buy throughout the month and the meat I will eek out for some meals for next week as well.

Also have bought some muslin clothes to strain hm yogurt off of ebay via boots treat store to use my voucher bought via the news letter a few weeks ago which will mean I will get £15 boots points in a month. will be a chrissie present for someone

I spent £90 on 4 of us last month shopping from the reduced section! I have all my bargains on my diary 8p for 4 croissants, 11p for bread 55p for milk etc some very imaginative meals later and I have yet to poison anyone lol I have a freezer full of posh breads - brioche etc steak mince, scones and milk. Everything in our house has yellow labels on it!

    Morning Natlie

I too am like you. I have some lovely baby items that I should list on ebay (taking advantage of free listing) BUT it's really hard to part with them emotionally. I guess I just will have to 'get over it' and perhaps keep one or two items and list the rest.

Am impressed with how little you spend on groceries each month.

Trying to claw back bank charges (my fault for going over OD limit!)

    Today I will/have:

    [STRIKE]
Go for run with dog (free exercise for both of us!)
    Bread in BM
Found I have enough points with Maximiles to get a CD or magazine subscription - woohoo
    Check online banking
Get M&S £10 dine in offer - hopefully there'll be something decent left by time i get there this afternoon
    [/STRIKE]Hang washing on airers
    [STRIKE]
Check Lotto ticket - he, he!
Take DS1 to cafe for treat, using change from 5s, 2s & 1s jar.
    Drive economically
[/STRIKE]Wrap present for DS3's friend's party tomorrow - present from present cupboard - a doubled up gift for DS3's last birthday - so money neutral gift.
    Plus make birthday card.

    that will do for today.

    Have a great weekend. :j

  • Flipping eck - its quiet today!
I too popped on earlyish at about 8am but there was no sign of anyone so I got on with the days chores instead (when I start the thread there always ends up with two running!)

    Already today I have....
    • Taken the dog for a 30 min walk locally to save petrol
    • Had a shower using up the ends of the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles
    • Been to B&M for some bargains - first time I've been and was amazed at the prices on some things:T
    • Popped to T*sco for the rest of the shopping and managed to spend just £1.79 after £8.50 of CC vouchers were taken off:T
    • Hoovered and dusted whole house
    • Done 1 load of washing - drying on the airer now
    • Phoned mum with free landline and told her about the bargain coats (all £20) and knitwear (either £5 or £10) at Mr T's -could be useful for my disabled sister
    • Tidied and cleaned kitchen
And for the rest of the day...
    • Find somewhere that's not too mucky to take the dog for a nice walk in the fresh air later
    • Do 1 hour of school work (yr 11 assessments)
    • Catch up on my diary here
    • Stay in tonight and watch a borrowed DVD
    • Keep heating off until it gets dark
    • Make tea from fridge bits using up aging salad and veg
    • Buy another poppy - mine looks a bit wilted:o
    • Maybe a teenybit of ironing
That's all I can think of so far - hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
  • Hi everyone,

Thanks DNMS for starting us off, it's really quiet around here!

After a very hectic 3 days at work I have the weekend off so loads to catch up on.
    Today already done:
Had a really nice lie in!
I have been pootling around the house tidying bits up. This needs to continue all weekend!
Checked banking online, PAYDAY! Whoo whoo, and tax rebate cheque has finally cleared!. :j
Paid Bcard bill and made an extra £300 overpayment (from tax rebate)
Transfered £200 into house moving fund. (again from tax rebate)
Put 2 asda recipts into price guarentee website, got over £15 vouchers back.:j
Sorted through the box of decomposing apples and threw out past it ones, must stew and freeze rest of this weekend. :o

    Today to do:
LSD, need bread and something for the OH's kid's teas.
COLLEGE WORK, want it all finished this weekend.
Keep tidying house and find things to Ebay and go to charity shop.
Find something nice for my dog's teas as it is the youngests birthday! (I know i'm sad but my pooches are my babies!) :p
Have a bottle of wine tonight and stay in, (my favorite wine is 3 for £10 at the mo, normally £7 a bottle so kinda MSE treat)

Right, must go and walk pooches as my living room is currently being used as the worlds smallest greyound race track!

    Hello everyone,

I agree DNMS, where has everyone gone? Thanks for starting us though, (I was still asleep :o). I need to head on over to the GC board again...but I found I could never stick to it so I gave up...:o:o:o Have fun tonight.
Welcome Natlie, hope you find this thread as helpful as I do.

    Today's plan:-

    • [STRIKE]Food from stores[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Charge phone via pc[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Check for surveys[/STRIKE] - Keep getting screened out of new OnePoll+ surveys after answering loads of questions
    • [STRIKE]Enter comps[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Dinner from meal plan[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Check online banking[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE]Check out this weeks flylady thread & do lots as my mother is coming over tomorrow![/STRIKE] - Lots done! The bedroom is nearly complete
    • [STRIKE]Try & keep the heating off for as long as possible[/STRIKE] - Off all day again :)
    • [STRIKE]Use free washing up liquid[/STRIKE]
    • Work on some wedding related things
    • DIY Manicure - Keep running out of time for this :(
    • [STRIKE]Make a start on sorting out the wardrobe[/STRIKE] - I've been improving downstairs instead of working on the floor that needs it more! - More clothes to the ebay pile, & clothes that were once too small for me now fit again :D
    • Decide what to spend clubcard vouchers on - OH agreed he wouldn't use an xbox enough so that's that ruled out at least.
    • [STRIKE]Get OH to do a few bits round the house too[/STRIKE] (like fit the shower seal that's sat around all week!)

Have a great, MSE day everyone x

    Afternoon all!
Thanks DNMS for starting the thread - it does seem a bit quiet lately! Hopefully things will pick up soon! I definitely find that if I don't make a list I don't get things done at the moment - and knowing I have to come back and "justify" if I haven't done anything makes me do it!

Welcome to all the new posters - this thread really does work!

    Today I will:
    Check banks
    Check Paypal
    Check CC
    Check TCB
    Food from house
    NSD
NPD - boyfriend's gone away for weekend so hopefully will be a bit of a hermit all weekend - yay!
Dig out toiletries box and find out some moisturiser to take to OH's and shower gel!
List a couple of things on Ebay maybe?
Wrap up Christmas presents bought already - will definitely keep me distracted and away from thoughts of spending!

    Little list but hopefully achieveable!

Have a great day everyone - sun's shining down here but it's blimming cold!

Any news from Starnac, btw? Hopefully no news is good news!

Evening all, I have had a week off work as annual leave and went through a deep cleanse of the bookshelves, DVD shelves and other little black holes I have! I put loads on ebay and made a wopping £60! I made a big batch of mushroom soup last night which made four meals and have made potato and leek soup today which has made five meals. Tomorrow I will slow cook some chicken/salsa for tacos which will last me another couple of meals. For probably no more than £5 I have almost made meals for a whole fortnight! crazy stuff. Tomorrow, I will have a proper look at the book shelves and see if I can sell anything. Oh and my cats have demanded at least an hour of head scratching... demanding wee mites :)

Hi everyone, I thought I would join in as I added up my credit card totals and I now owe £2849 (at highest it was over £5500), so I am happy it's going down and want to keep it going that way!

    Today I have:

    Checked online banking
    Completed a survey
Spent the afternoon trying to catch up with my OU work
Washing on airer as weather rubbish (although yesterday's load hasn't all dried on airer yet, so have had to hang coathangers off all available doorhandles/surfaces!)

I will watch a DVD tonight or play a pc game.

    Tomorrow:

    More studying
    Ebay listings
    Go for a walk
Perhaps start on the pantry tidy up and inventory? This depends on how long it takes me to catch up with 28 pages of study!
