system recovery

hi,,,first off ide like to tell you what happened,
i turned my commy off and 1 hour later when i got back
i turned it on,and got this message,,,
"a disk read error occured-press ctrl+alt+del to restart"
after doing that it tries to restart but i get the same message huh.gif

ive tried to load the boot disk up to re-install windows from scratch
but after it says press any key to boot
i press a key and it says "checking your system configuration"
like its supose to,,,but the screen after sticks which is totally blank,
what can i do???
please help:confused:

    Ok its a computer or PC ;) anyway have you got XP with SP2, have you been turning off your PC properly as so many people miss the start and shutdown routine.

    i always log off propperly/start and turn off,,,
    i have all original disks that came with commy
    and when i try to put the boot disk in
    it says press any key to boot,,,so i press a key
    but it gets stuck on the next screen after it says checking system configuration which is blank

    yes its a P4 DESK-TOP

    Have you tried system restore in safe mode ?

    Er thats not the make and model unless built as an Individual machine. :)

    Maybe something like a Dell (manufacturer), Dimension (model), C521 (model number or type)

    ive just read in the manual to insert the recovery disk
    and i did so,,,
    it done some sort of test PCI SCAN COMPLETE was in it as thats all i saw cos it was so fast
    and now i get this message whilst the recovery disk is in
    "the file RETTEN.EXE is missing in the original directory,

    if the file has been deleted this recovery is not available any more,

    if the RETTEN.EXE file has been moved to another directory or drive
    you have tostart the recovery manually

    then a letter A:\>- the line starts blinking
    as if i have to do something

    Quickness maybe but no help at all as you can appreciate different PCs work in slightly different ways also in conjunction with default BIOS settings.

    biddy79uk.oh i had same problem as you a few years back.In the end a techie friend of mine reinstalled windows for me .
