Is it only me who doesn't do Christmas Stockings for their children?

  • With my niece and nephew (now 21 and 22) we left stockings in kitchen along with Santas milk and cookie and rudolphs carrot. Living room door would be closed over and rule was when they were little and woke up they would get everyone else up and we would all go to kitchen where stockings would be and we would make breakfast and eat it while stockings were being opened and when everyone had finished breakfast would go into living room together and open presents. Now that they are adults they say that was rubbish we were always desperate to get presents but it was good as meant adults could get a cuppa and roll and bacon before mayhem started.

  • I really miss having young children at christmas it was so lovely. We were often skint but managed to get them what they asked for always on the end of the bed.

We do stockings, usually overflowing, left just outside their bedroom door from Father Christmas. The kids bring them into our bedroom to open them and we feign surprise. Then downstairs under the tree are presents from family that we won't see on Christmas Day and friends. There is also a pile of presents for each child from us which includes their main gift. They open presents from us while we have a cup of tea and watch. By then they have opened enough in my opinion, so we always save the others for Boxing Day. (They also get more to open from family when we go for Christmas lunch.) They always ask to open them all but love it on Boxing Day when they have another round of presents to open. Stockings always contain chocolate coins and a chocolate orange !
  • We had pillowcases full of toys, We a large gang of kids, the presents were not wrapped, just loose, it was exciting geting your head right into the bottom of the pillowcase to find the wee stuff.
  • I didn't have a stocking as a child but do them for the kids and hubby and I started doing one to give to each other about 4 years ago

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have always done stockings and the rule is that the stockings can be opened upstairs when the kids wake up but they are not allowed downstairs until Mum & Dad are ready! The stockings contain small gifts and unwrapping them delays us having to get out of bed (although they often used to come & sit on our bed to open them.) Then downstairs for the 'big' presents.
Now that my girls are teens I suggested that we stop, but they weren't keen & so now I do bits of make up, toiletries & jewellery etc for them in their stockings and was pleasantly surprised that last year they made up a little stocking for us. Thank goodness we don't have to get up at the crack of dawn anymore though.

    Exactly this.

  • I have never done stockings for mine either! When the kids are in bed on Xmas eve, we usually just bring all the presents down and arrange them in piles under the tree.

Come to think of it, I can't remember my parents ever doing me a stocking. My presents would usually be in a sack on the landing outside my bedroom door.

I never had a stocking so was keen to do it for mine, I asked my 19yr old yesterday if she still wanted a stocking and was told of course she did! I still put the stocking outside their rooms when they are asleep and then Christmas morning we all get in my bed to open them, even the smallest items are wrapped to slow opening them. All other pressies are downstairs wrapped on the sofa and only opened after I've had a cuppa and put the fairy lights on :D
