Is it only me who doesn't do Christmas Stockings for their children?

Present placement just comes down to family tradition - we always had a small present and a selection box left at the end of the bed, than the others in piles on the living room floor, with presents from family under the tree, and that's how I do it too.0

When I was very young, and ditto my brother, our parents put a few presents in a pillow case at the bottom of our beds to wake up to. That stopped when we were each around 5/6 - then we'd just put the presents under the tree.

We do stocking on the ends of the bed with the usual orange, some sweets and small toys in it for our two, them main presents under the tree. I always had a stocking when I was little but dh never did so finds it a bit odd! We both can't decide now if the presents under the tree are from us or Father Chistmas??!! Not that either on them look at the tags I guess!'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose' - Dr Suess

we never had christmas stockings as children, we had them hung up but they were never filled, instead we had piles of presents filling the settee, thats what i do with my 2 now, they have to wake us before they are allowed in the living room then we all go together to see if the big man has been, then usually the couches are full of pressies, i do go overboard at christmas like my parents did with us, its not that we have lots of money just buy things through the year and it mounts up and i love it, i dont spoil them through the year though and they get about 3 presents for their birthdays wich are october and november, they seem pretty happy ith what santa does and i know i always was as a child even if half the presents where cheap stocking fillers lolback to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0

I'm 26 and me and sister never had stockings. We were told that Santa was busy and it easier for him to leave them under the Christmas tree to save him time and so he didn't risk waking us up.
My young niece now has a stocking but its not in her bedroom. Whats the point in presents in stockings if children wake up and opening without you realising, you don't get to see the look on their face!Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0 -
I never had stocking presents as a child but i have always given my children stocking presents and they come from santa
My children range from 13-23 and i still put them from santa its a sort of tradition and joke now as they are so used to getting presents from santa :rotfl:
I still put one present each at the end of the bed the rest goes under the tree when they are in bed christmas eve0 -
We always had stocking when we where growing up, not much in them orange, nuts and bits. and i have always done the same for mine, they are 18 and 22 now and still bring there stocking onto my bed to open them, they turn back into kids for five minutes and i love it:)
But there stocking do tend to cost about £50.each to fill as they have got older and thats buying things reduced as i go0 -

Very similar to what we used to do. I think when I have kids I'd like to do stockings though, for a few "fun" things like colouring pens etc.0 -
We have always done stockings and the rule is that the stockings can be opened upstairs when the kids wake up but they are not allowed downstairs until Mum & Dad are ready! The stockings contain small gifts and unwrapping them delays us having to get out of bed (although they often used to come & sit on our bed to open them.) Then downstairs for the 'big' presents.
Now that my girls are teens I suggested that we stop, but they weren't keen & so now I do bits of make up, toiletries & jewellery etc for them in their stockings and was pleasantly surprised that last year they made up a little stocking for us. Thank goodness we don't have to get up at the crack of dawn anymore though.0 -
We never had stockings as kids, all pressies no matter how small were individually wrapped and under the tree so everything opened together. I asked my Mum about this a few years back and she said the commercial stockings weren't available in the shops back then. She and my Grandmother had used their own stockings (the ones they wore) as kids, but me and sis wore socks so not an option.
When I had DS for the first couple of years I didn't do a stocking for him, but when he got to about 3 he saw them on Christmas films and asked for one.
I have never found an ideal time to give them or place to hang them. On the fireplace they are overlooked in favour of the bigger items under the tree, in bedrooms mine check them when they wake (in the middle of the night) and then want to get up cos 'he's beeeeen'). I've asked for several years if they still want to have one (cos of these reasons) but they insist they do.0
