Yahoo mail a/c slowdown

I have used my yahoo account for over 10 years without any problems until now. Recently it has been operating painfully slowly and I don't know why....
Background: my Dell laptop is about 10 months old, McAfee seems to run in the background all the time. Whilst my yahoo a/c is open I can hear my laptop "thinking" - in fact it sounds as if it's about to take off! I have a habit of having lots of tabs and different applications open concurrently, however the problem is isolated to yahoo - shut this down and everything else seems to come back to life. As far as I am aware I am using the latest and "fastest" version of yahoo mail.
Any tips on how to get yahoo mail working at normal speed again? I see through the help section that I can submit feedback but there won't be a response, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a contact option. Any advice would be received with thanks.

no issues here; is it affecting a particular browser? wondering if a particular (scam ) email is causing the issue ? as it attempts to load ...could u delete/empty all the junk email; might be worth clearing out the cache using ccleaner too.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Sorry to be thick, how do I do this?
don't install the yahoo toolbar; on startup look at the tabs and option to clean out cache; untick delete cookies/passwords though.

It sounds like you have upgraded from the classic Yahoo! email to the awful new one. Have a look at this thread.
The best solution is to use an email client such as Thunderbird. Then you don't have to go anywhere near Yahoo and it's far quicker.
Are you on BT? If so this is how to set up Thunderbird.
