Mobile phone number

Hi All,
I've just given notice to cancel my pay monthly contract with Orange as I'm moving overseas in January. After spending 50 minutes on the phone to Orange yesterday and heaps of hassle getting this sorted out, and requesting the phone be unlocked, I suddenly thought last night about my number.
Does cancelling my monthly contract and having the phone unlocked (I intend to use a PAYG Sim both overseas and when I'm back in the UK) mean I won't keep my number?

You should have asked to switch you to PAYG after the contract is terminated. It's not too late yet I think.
Unlocking is irrelevant.

Thanks, I fully intended to switch but with all the hassle I had yesterday, it just slipped my mind, I'll give them a call and see if it's not too late to do that.

Edit: just called Orange and it's no problem to switch over to PAYG and I keep my number, sorted
