Argos Mobile Phone - accidental damage, 12 month warranty

permanent staff tends to use their judgement more than temp staff who will follow the companies policies.
i onece took a digital recorder back to argos after 2 month as it just stopped recording even though it was marked in the menu as recording.
the staff member said that it should be returned for repair but 9/10 items are returned to store unable to repair so she just replaced this.
you think you pay £100 then argos would of paid approx. £40 wholesale for that item, but a repair would cost £30 then to argos its uneconomical to repair
but a temp staff member would book it in for repair as thats the company policy.
We'll have to agree to disagree. In my experience temp members of staff (especially at Argos) tend to be poorly trained and don't really care. They tend to be students who are aiming for bigger and better things and don't really have any major interest in following a companies policies to the letter! Of course some temps are good workers, however I would argue that a permanent member of staff who will get into trouble down the line if they made a bad decision are far more diligent than a member of staff who has nothing to lose no matter what they do!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. As an ex Member of Argos. I can tell you:
Mobiles are exempt from the 30 day money back, But even if it wasn't the phone has been open and used so you wouldn't of been able to return it unless it was faulty anyway.
Whether it will be sent in for repair probably varies store to store, but what we did was replace it in the first 30 days then send it away to be repaired after that, Temp staff or permanent staff, we all followed to same policy.I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

Yeah that is where I got it.
Whoa wasn't expecting so many replies, thanks all!
Btw, I did put it in rice overnight and all yesterday, and also undid the casing and wiped out the moisture from the screen, but still nothing
. Also, having trouble getting the case back together now gahhh!
RE the accidental damage thing I was just going by the bit that says on the listing 'BRAND NEW - WITH A 12 MONTH ARGOS WARRANTY'. I then searched for the terms and found this page: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/productBreakdowntandc.htm which reads:You are entitled to access our 24-hour UK-based call centre on 0844 8100511 to receive help if your product is not working.
If your product suffers either:
i. damage caused accidentally (physical damage as a result of a sudden cause which stops the product working properly) either within or outside the supplier’s or manufacturer’s guarantee; or
ii. a mechanical or electrical breakdown outside the supplier’s or manufacturer’s guarantee period; and our customer services team are not able to resolve the problem we will, in our discretion, decide whether to approve a repair, and then pay for the parts and labour cost of repair (and the
parts costs if these are not covered by a manufacturer’s parts guarantee), or may replace or pay the cost of replacing your product (if these are not covered by a manufacturer’s parts guarantee), in each case subject to the full Terms & Conditions below.
I am even more confused now tbh. Not sure what to do! Still so annoyed at myself for this.0 -

Your link points to 'Breakdown Care' - is this the warranty, or something extra?
Edit: Had a quick look - Breakdown Care is not the standard warranty, it is an add on that you can buy.
In the package was there a returns address? That will show whether it has come from the warehouse or the techy types.0 -
Ahhh okay, where the hell can you view the '12 month warranty' terms that is supposed to come with all products then? I can't find a link anywhere!
I threw the packaging away, just have the box and such unfortunately.
This is a nightmare!
eta: I've just e-mailed Argos so will see what they say. Should phone I know but really have bad phone anxiety :embarasse.0 -
I would guess the warranty would be in the package ... and I would be amazed if you are covered for water damage.0

Linkies please.
After looking for said article, I am pleased to discover that it has been removed.
But there is still a thread discussing it which shows the sort of suggestions made
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3361104One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Great news - my phone yesterday resurrected itself from the dead! Horray!

Glad it's sorted, but I did a huge facepalm on your behalf when I read you were trying to get a replacement for a water damaged phone under warranty.
