basil 01, You will be very lucky to get a reply fro, House.co.uk, They may read it but they tend not to reply to disputes.....Website is down again for "improvements".:rotfl:

PS I am still waiting to receive a refund for a double payment taken by crap House co uk billing system on 11th Nov, yet to receive any of the the 3 reportedly sent cheques.

Well, presumably your housemate can prove they paid the bill and you have already asked for the money back and not received it. I guess the next step is to write them a letter of complaint. If that does not resolve the issue, then you will be able to take the matter up with Energywatch, who surely will sort it out.

It's easy to do, send in a copy of the tenancy agreement and BG will refund it to you.

A tenancy agreement doesn't prove who paid the bill, it simply proves you were living there when it was paid, so is worthless. You need to write in to the admail address on the bill explaining the mistake and including proof of payment. If you paid by cheque or debit card, this would be a bank statement with the transaction highlighted. If you paid in cash it would need to be a receipt from the post office/bank. Without that you won't get a refund. Make sure it is sent recorded post, as letters have a habit of going missing. It may take up to 6 weeks for it to be turned round and the cheque land on your doormat.

If you withold the money from your bill, then the account will proceed along BG's debt path and you could incur charges, have a debt rep visit or even end up being disconected. Until the meter was removed or you moved out of the property it wouldn't affect your credit rating, as BG don't report to credit reference agencies. However once you no longer have a gas supply, they have a habit of passing debts onto collection agencies, which does affect your credit record.

BigDunc, legally you could threaten to take them to court, but energywatch is probably the easiest route.

Not suprised that house didn't respond to you.

I had a go at them wuoting their customer charter ...
"...we will reply to all your emails with a personal response "

Absolute bull I've not had a single reply to any of the 3 emails I've sent them.

It annoys me when companies think up these flowery feel good charters and then completely ignore them.

I sincerely cannot see a time when I will ever voluntarily choose British Gas for anything ever again. My own experiences were mediocre, but reading what has happened to other people absolutely appalls me.

    Congrats on your result BasiL!

British Gas are refusing to send a refund cheque unless I can prove that the money for "The Occupier" account was paid (by me or similar), despite them acknowledging that the account is in credit by the amount I want back.

Who keeps receipts months after paying a bill once the company has acknolwedged the payment?

Is there anything I can do legally to get the money back, if I am unable to prove that I paid it, but BG acknowledge they received a credit to "The Occupier" account while I was living at the house?

How did your housemate pay the bill?

At the end of the day it's only £30, but their attitude is not only losing them at least one customer for life, but I'll make sure it costs them more than that over the years by getting plenty of quotes / surveys for central heating system I have no intention of buying from them, so long as it's a sport and doesn't waste any of my time :)
