Cancelling Orange Broadband

Hi,
Due to unforeseen circumstances I may be moving out of a rented property 1 month in to a 6 month lease. However, I have just signed a 12 month contract with orange for broadband to pay by direct debit.
Where do I stand here? I have been advised by a friend that I should just be able to inform orange and agree a cancellation charge. Someone else just said to cancel my direct debit....
Do I have to honour this full 12 months of charges?

Yes you do, unless you are transferring the contract to a new address.
Very bad advice. Cancelling your DD will simply result in the debt being sold on, harassment from DCA's, and your credit record being trashed for the next 6 years.
The ETC will be the equivalent of your remaining monthly charges x the no. of months left.
17.3 If you give notice of termination of the Broadband Agreement, or the Broadband Supplier terminates that agreement pursuant to paragraph 2.3, 2.6, 9.3 and 15.8 during the Minimum Period, you must pay all Charges that would otherwise have been payable under the Broadband Agreement and the Wireless & Talk Agreement during the Minimum Period. You must also continue to pay the Payment Handling Charge to Orange Payment Service for any Payment Handling Services performed up to and including the date on which the Minimum Period ends.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
