i have one neighbour with a daughter who is a year younger than mine, thats it.0

Another option would be to ask around friends/family etc if someone could help. Ask the school when a place is offered if they know of any parent who can help - or they could advertise in the newsletter for a parent to do this. Chat to childminders in your area - most of them do school runs for kids they look after and taking another to school for a few £ a day may be beneficial to them.0

I notice you say you have a care package... could you consider asking to change this for direct payments, managing your own care, and paying someone out of this to take your child to and from nursery/school.
I had my DPs reassessed just yesterday, and the assessor made it clear that, whilst direct payments CAN'T be used to pay for childcare, you can use the money for "help with parenting", and school runs come into that.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Hi,
As your daughter is currently 3, are you accessing any Sure Start children's centre servicces? Every community has one, have a look by googling Sure Start Children's Centres, and search for the one closest to you. They will be able to support you with regards to transport to and from activities through various schemes that they can access should you wish to follow this up in terms of play sessions etc for your daughter. Additionally, your early years service (contact your local authority/council) will have a child care referral advisor (or similar post), or your children's centre staff could refer you into the service. Through this they can support your childcare needs, which for example can include them supporting you to visit local childminders/other childcare options to talk though the needs specific to your circumstances, to arrange taster sessions for your daughter (closer to the time). There might be a childminder who can collect your daughter as part of the school run for other children in their care. It's great that you're planning ahead, best of luck0 -
You would hope though that if a child was being transported by taxi, they would make other and speedier arrangements for that child! The process often takes up to half an hour and if Ladylump found a taxi service who would do this, she'd be likely to pay excess premiums for the hassle.
Good thought, along with all the other suggestions re: Social Services etc.Another thought LadyLump, have a look on the HOMESTART website to find your local scheme.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

"You would hope though that if a child was being transported by taxi, they would make other and speedier arrangements for that child! "
- for the specific 'needs' group of kids :
They do, generally a pre-arrangement is made for the exact same [ taxi ] driver in both directions on a permanent basis, this arrangement can last for years. A trusting bond develops between driver and child, there are many differing arrangement for drop-off pick-up usually the taxi unlike all other vehicle is allowed into the school grounds and all the way to reception where the responsibility is taken over by the school. Collection is the reverse and may be at reception / and / or responsibility handed back to the taxi [ early collection ] by teaching staff at the school gates 5 - just 5 minutes before the remainder of the students leave.
There are of course many different methods depending on the needs of the child, some kids can go no where, in either direction without a separate escort in addition to the driver - again depending on the needs assessment by the LA / SS / CS. There are national laws [ In loco parentis ] on responsibility that have to be undertaken by the various groups associated with the care of children, and care is always taken on the 'hand over' - the technical point at which the child leaves the responsibility of the school and the taxi assumes responsibility from the school.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. You would hope that...our school wouldnt budge at all.My DH suggested that DH be allowed to miss assembly, which takes place every morning-to allow me to catch the next bus which would be quieter and Id have been able to actually get on it without hassle. We were told this was not acceptable as my child might begin to think he was dfferent from the rest of them...which apparently would definitely affect him adversley.
This is why I gave up and got my drivers licence.I no longer take my full dose of meds to make sure Im okay to drive (we live about 500 yards from school-us being at the bottom of a mahoosive hill and school at the top).By the weekend I cant walk at all and DH takes over the house whilst I medicate and rest.
We are hover, now allowed to use the teachers car park and he comes into the ooffice through the staff entrance and then back out of the building to the milling area-where he goes through the gate with the rest of the kids...how this doesnt make him aware that we are different is beyond me.
I signed up to the disabled parents network and discovered that I was only one of many.Schools have plans for disabled children-but none for disabled parents...which is why I suggested OP gets on to her local councelor now-it took us a year to sort out getting to school.I had ss on my case because he was arriving late/not at all when Id been taking to hospital with dislocated hips etc...but they never offered any practical assistance. The attitude is very much "if you are disabled you should not have children",infact one old lady told DS1 that once whilst we were trying to get on a bus.Since I got my licence he now refuses to ride a bus-even when with friends...the trauma of it all stayed with him:(
ETA:Richie I really wish we had a service like the one your fols run.It would have made things so much easier. We tried dial a ride, the local accessible transport scheme, all kinds of services...they all said as DS was not disabled he could not use the service.0 -
