Hi Ladylump,I dont have much of an answer for you except to contact the educational welfare officer at your local council.Im not sure they'll provide funding for homeschool but you might find an accessible transport scheme.

Ive just spent the last year fighting for help getting my 5 year old in-I have cerebral palsy...I had councelors and MP's involved and a number of meetings with the local bus garage manager and other TFL staff.School couldnt help and eventually I gave up,got a motability car and my drivers licence-with just 1 week to go to the summer holidays.

The school is now suddenly very supportive and I have been given the use of the disabled bay in the teachers car park.
  • How is she getting to school at the moment?

What is the barrier that stops her getting there, is public transport available, and how old is she?

Have you considered teaching her yourself?
  • In your post on the benefits board you said that your daughter is three years old, so she is not legally of school age, and I'm not sure if you would qualify for help with transport. There is no funding for home educating.

Some people might argue that your DLA should cover the cost of necessary transport, eg taxis to take your daughter to school.
  • thankyou.
what stop sher getting there is im unable to walk hardly any distance at all.she is 3 at the moment and started nursey which my husband has been taking her in my motability car but it seems we are are parting and i dont drive.public transport i wouldnt be able to manage as too far to walk.i have considered teaching her myself but wouldnt know where to start.
  • my dla is taken up on the car and the 187 i have left will no way pay for 4 taxis a day and the waiting time.
  • Your daughter doesn't need 'teaching' at three years old - she is below school age. Nursery school is all about learning to play and making friends - I am a retired nursery/infant teacher!

Why not learn to drive, and use your Motability car? You may even be able to get help with driving lessons, but I'm not sure about this.
  • yeh i know that education has to be started the term she is 5.i wouldnt be allowed to drive sadly as im on morphine and fentanyl.im thinking ahead for next sept.thankyou for replying.
  • How far is nursery from home? If you use a reputable taxi firm they will have drivers that do school runs without you having to go along, so that will cut the cost down considerably.

Is the ex not going to be close enough that he can help with transport?

Morphine and fentanyl doesn't automatically mean you can't drive. Obviously if it does make you sleepy then don't, but I'm on both and drive just fine for short distances. (The short part is due to pain, not the medication themselves.)

  • the school is about half hour walk.im not sure where he will be to be honest as he may move back to his home town in london.i would so much love to be able to drive but i get very sick on my meds and cant turn properly as i have a bone marrow disease, too much pressure in my head and a massive disc prolapse in my lumbar back.maybe home schooling is the way to go.
i have no problem with a reputable taxi firm if affordable.however at 4-5 years old when she would start reception i dont know what would happen with seeing her into the school and out safely.
