  • my sister was the same, i had accidnt so cuol dno longer care so they collected the car and it was only within a short space of time.

get social services to come and assess you for care needs etc anad they may be able to provide someone to take the kids to school and help around the house, or you may have to pay some towards but worth aa try.

some councils are not as generous with the direct payment scheme as others but ask and it menas you can provide your own carers for whatever you want rather than use local council ones.

for income support there is a standard weekly allowance (67.50). then you get 'premiums' added onto that allowance if you fall into certain groups. it is basically extra money per week if you qualify. if you get middle rate care, live alone and no one claims carers allowance for you, your premium would be 55.30 per week 'severe disability premium' in addition to a 'standard' disability premim of 28.85 per week. not knowing your full circumstances - you would probably get the lone parent premium as well (20.20) and if you have a child under 1 (10.50)

so you would have a total weekly amount of entitlement to income support dependant on your circumstances. lets say it all adds up to 180 per week. if your incapcity benefit pays you say, 120 per week, you would only get the difference in income support (so 60 for example.)

    hope that makes sense.

If a person is claiming Child Benefit and Tax Credits they do not get lone parent and children premiums on Income Support as well. Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits replaced these.

As you are receiving IB you may be entitled to Income Support as a top up. Income support is means tested. Your income support would be calculated as:

Income Support Applicable Amount – Qualifying Income = Income Support Paid
Qualifying income could be tariff income (i.e.£1 per £250 of capital over £6000), Benefit Income (IB in your case) and any other income such as pensions etc….

Your income support applicable amount would consist of a basic personal allowance (single rate) + a disability premium as you are on Long Term IB and possibly a severe disability premium if no one is paid CA for looking after you and no one else over 18 lives in the house. If awarded IS you would receive full CTB, Full HB/LHA and full CTC as well as Child Benefit. One month to appeal IS decisions.

Also, if you contact your local council, you will be entitled to a concessionery (sp?) bus pass. At least it means you will be able to get out and about. I must admit, I tend to use mine, when I am going to the bank, it's buses only through the high street, and the walk from the nearest car park is too much for me. However the bus goes almost door to door! hth
