Work Programme... Need advice please

  • I cant see all the unemployed being able to do activities on this full time as they will have to have premises the size of football pitches to accomodate everybody. There are thousands of unemployed in my city.
  • It's not necessarily an intensive programme - there just isn't enough money available to deliver anything that requires a huge amount of face to face time, and that's assuming Primes are hitting their mandatory and indicative targets. All Primes have outlined (and it is very outline) their minimum offer, which gives a very rough idea of what they're providing.

Looks like I can't post links, but if you Google for "Work Programme minimum service delivery", the first link on Indus Delta or second link directly to DWP will bring up the right pdf.

The WP is not even working where I live so god only knows how or who will be dealing with this scheme. The WP told me when I first attended they have to many people from the JC booked in and they can't cope.

The flow from JCP was initially rather higher than anticipated, although it's settled down a little now. The profile of referrals coming through (e.g. benefit type, barriers to employment etc) is still a long way from projections.

Mine is Seetec and I can tell you they are doing nothing as per that list.
  • The problem is that there just isn't enough money in the WP to deliver anything particularly meaningful - average of c.£750-1350 per head, based on meeting targets. It's a longer, cheaper programme than either of its immediate predecessors - nobody can do a great deal of intensive or personal stuff for £10 a week, which is pretty much what we're talking about here.
  • Sounds like a right load of rubbish,I think the only things the unemployed can be doing is what they are doing already looking for jobs, doing voluntary work, going on courses etc. I dont see how bulding paper towers and discussing barriers to employment help people. Most people I know with barriers are well aware of what they are!
This government is in the process of shutting down loads of factories for disabled people to work in, the organization is called Remploy and they are subsidized by the Government. This shows how committed the Government are towards getting disabled people working! So God help the rest of us.

Not enough £? They get paid once you get a job so it's in their best interest to do something to help you.
  • Yes, the Sayce Review, with the most leading set of consultation questions I've ever seen. It's potentially very damaging as whilst I don't doubt the sincerity of what DWP are trying to do, carrying out the proposed reforms now is just going to result in a decrease of provision. The economy isn't in a fit shape to take up the slack and in all likelihood won't be for several years.

Absolutely - no jobs, no income (not quite true as there's a small attachment fee this year and next). It's still around 50% of the payment levels for New Deal, and that was a shorter programme.
