right, First things first - never use the trainline ever again. Use the myriad of train operating websites which will not charge you a booking fee and in some cases you can get them posted out to you for FREE also if you dont use next day.

If there isnt a machine there then you should always opt to get them sent to him as the machines require the card that was used to purchase the tickets before it releases them. Unless you ring them up and ask them to let any card use it - but your just causing yourself more hassle in the long run by doing so.

for all the extra hassle I would in future just get them posted. But make sure that if you cant get this sorted that your son approaches the train guard straight away when he boards the service home and explains the problem to him. He may let him travel to Brum to pick up the tickets - if at all possible. Or he may give him an UPFN which will let him travel and you can then attempt to sort it out with them at a later date.

But I would strongly advise you to either get them posted in future OR get hiim to book the tickets using his card and also note the times that the actual booking office is open when booking his tickets.

  • thnx for the info JB hair, he has got his card that paid for the tickets, he cant get them posted as he stays in a hotel. he hasn`t enough money to buy more tickets as he doesn`t get his first pay until next week.
i have told him to ask someone as soon as possible so fingers crossed, i only hope he doesn`t get stuck down there on his own.
  • Staying in a hotel should not affect how he gets his mail!

anyway in future it may be more beneficial from him to just go down the station booking office when its open and buy his tickets in advance from them then. They will be the same price as online - bar any TOCS online discount - so he wont pay more then.

  • thanx jeff,
the ticket office was closed, no trains running and no bus put on, he got a lift to birmingham new street and they gave him his tickets, he then missed his train and has had to get a later one. will be doing things differently next week.
