My PC has power but won't start up.

Help please.

After pressing the power button on the pc I can hear the motors start up but nothing is happening. There is not the usual roar on start up and the monitor is completely blank.

I have a router connected which is still working fine which allows me to use the laptop.

Any advice would be helpful, my son uses the PC for uni work!!

Thanks.

Serendipity.

  • Could be some monitor problem..

Happens to me sometimes, try checking the monitor Signal Cable
  • I put a new hub on at the beginning of the week and everything has been working fine up until now.

I have just disconnected the hub and now the pc is working again!

    Why?? Anyone?!?

Not enough power from the psu by the sounds of it, or corrupt drivers
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • startrekker, how can I find out if I have enough power from the psu. I don't want to be throwing out a hub if it is perfectly good. It was a Xmas present and brand new.

    Thanks for your help.

Need a list of anything that could be drawing the power, but before that, what hub are you talking about? and how did you install it in the first place, and what was connected to the hub before you disconnected it and the pc then worked

Does the hub require a PSU? If you opt not to use it, it is possible the power draw will prevent the motherboard from starting correctly.
  • The hub is a Hi-speed usb 2.0. (Powerful bus & self power). It is Plug & Play and did not come with a disc - the important words may be 'Hi-speed' do you think??

There was nothing connected to the hub when the PC wouldn't work.

Your hub doesn't sound well. Can you get a refund?

Probably not a good idea to try plugging it into the PC after the PC has powered up...

  • Yes John,I think I may well try for a refund.

I had the PC switched off when I plugged in the hub and when I powered up it has been working fine all week but... I have been getting a message saying roughly 'One of your disks needs to be checked etc' and NTFS is mentioned but can't remember exactly. This has only happened occassionally but perhaps all this is also connected to a 'sick' hub or perhaps one that the speed is too fast for my PC!?
